It's safe to assume that you've tried turning down the volume when you are actually in a call, correct?

Try using a bluetooth headset where you can control the volume from the headset if it'll help.

Yeah I tried, both the bluetooth and headset works perfect.

I haven't had a problem with mine (for what little it's worth).

I do now that if my wife uses her headset with her iphone that I have to hold the phone a foot from my face to not go deaf as it just seems to magnify every high pitched sound. It's the only problem I've had though.

Thats exactly what I have to do with my wife Palm Pre, very very loud, also my friend have a palm pre and I have the same problem, eventhough the volume all the way down.
Oh well, mybe use the bluetooth a lot now.

Has anyone found a solution to this as I am having this trouble as well?

I had this exact problem. The volume at its lowest would still rattle the ear speaker. I took the phone back (within the first 30 days still) and they just did a quick swap for a new one. I told them the speaker was blown... no sure if it was blown but sounded way loud and lots of vibration all the way down. The new one was perfect.

Sounds like a defective phone to me. Mine is perfect, quiet when I need it, loud when I need it.

Call Sprint and ask for an exchange and explain the problem, or go to a store. Dont get suckered into going through Asurion, or whoever your insured by if any.

Even though I dont have the sprint version of the Hero. I am experiencing the same issue. My volume in-call is set to the lowest setting. I cant put my ear next to the phone too loud... However when I made it "louder" one more green bar, it got quieter (Sorry for my english :p). The next call from the same caller was then ok. Well OK is a relative term, the lowest setting is for my taste still way too loud.

Nothing about my Hero is loud enough. It's the quietest phone I've ever owned for call volume, ringer volume, speaker volume -- it's the biggest complaint I have with the phone.

Well for me it was in our office a colleague could hear my boss clearly (all could). I wouldn't call that quiet... And as said turning the volume up actually turned it down.

I have found that while on a call if I turn the volume up, don't have to turn it all the way up just a few notches, then all the way down it seems to make a fairly big difference. This is what seems to work well on my Hero. Hopefully it will work for you guys too!

Me and my wife both have Hero's and Blue Ant Z9i bluetooths. If I'm not on my bluetooth and she is then the speaker turned all the way down is way too loud. I immediately put on my bluetooth and the sound is normal. I do use the bluetooth most of the time. Great one by the way. TC
