I am hoping this will stay in the main forum area and not be moved
so it can get more views to help me understand this

    I have my at & t acct

2 accts are mine on a family plan(captivate & backflip, with a 3rd soon for a windows mobile device)

and the other one is for my roommate

Well today i tried to call into ask about window phone 7 and they asked me for a password...

Now normally, i wouldn't be thrown off but at the same time...I never have given at & t a password before...they always use the last 4 of my social...

after discovering a password was placed on my acct...i discovered this was done on oct. 30...my roommate wouldn't place a password on the acct...she is an authorized user only to do exchanges and pay her bill...she wouldn't do it

But who would? My ex bf

after 15 minutes of verifying who Carmen ????? is....i was able to get into the acct and promised that this wouldnt happen again....

    3 hours later...
I discovered my phone was not provisioned for calls...or anything for that matter

at first i freaked out trying to figure out what is going on with the account, thinking i was past due but then i remembered...i pay 2 months in advance so that's impossible

i called into realize it has been suspended and the password changed again...

i discovered he can always suspend my account as long as he reports my phone lost or stolen....

how he gets my password idk.....
but is there anything i can do because he can always suspend my line without any thing stopping him...

I am basically upset and scared

Go to a corporate owned store and have them reset the password and change it to something that only you would know.

one possibility is that he is accessing your online account doing all of that from there. If that is the case try to change the password for your online account.

If this keeps happening, and if you want, I can take a look at your account from my store and make sure nothing fishy is going on.

    worst case scenario:
    you get your number changed

File a police report, too. At the very least this is harassment. Could be considered stalking, imo.

Yep, notifying the police will not hurt anything, at the very least it might help get him off your case.

But ultimately, if it's him doing it, he has control and you're never going to be free until you switch things up. You may need a different account.

I spent the last hour and a half arguring with him....

I think it's ridiculous that anybody can call at & t and say hi my name is carmen and my phone was stolen and i need to have it suspended...without verifying my password on the account or my social...

I don't want to involve the police because i don't want our parents or others getting involved but i just don't know what to do...

i just want to know how the hell he is accessing my account without having the proper security provisions....

next time, could you also report it stolen, and get them to make some changes on the account at the same time?

    >>> after 15 minutes of verifying who Carmen ????? is

Maybe I'm missing something here, but once you verified your identity all that was left to do was to stabilize your phone and account profiles and change the password.

I'd not hesitate to have a talk with the police about the matter, Carmen; these things have a way of escalating.

Once you explain to them that you need discretion and privacy, they'll know how to handle things.

And don't be afraid to threaten AT&T with legal action, because they are allowing an unauthorized person to make changes to your account.
And I also agree with others about filing a police report. At the very least, it will scare your ex and hopefully drive the point home, and he'll leave you alone. These actions definitely constitute as harassment.

If he knows someone at AT&T that is how he is getting by your security. Someone on the inside maybe helping him.Change your access code and if he is still able to get into your account someone at AT&T might be helping him.

If you want to avoid Police and parents involved...Change the number....talk to your ex...scare him with police action.
Tell ATT that they are being stupid that someone is calling them again and again to file the same stolen phone report....I agree threaten them for legal action....

questions about how many lines, when they were active, my last five phone calls etc. etc. etc.

As of right now, it is back on

I decided to try and outsmart him

He suspended my line by reporting it stolen so in order to let him think it was stolen...i just changed the number

I assume that when you call a suspended line it says something along the lines of i can't receive phone calls...the same thing it would say if that line had been disconnected as well or changed so it's changed...

I just don't understand why At & t would allow anyone to call in and just say a phone was stolen or lost without verifying the Idenity of the customer...two reps told me this...its backwards

It's really easy to bypass a call center's "security". You have to remember there's no patch for human stupidity. He knows your name, probably has the last four numbers of your SSI and if he has your account number, then he has all the access he needs. With those, anyone can bluff their way into getting whatever they want done to your account. As suggested earlier, file a report with the police. These things can escalate and it sends a strong message.

If your ex is willing to start harassing you like this then he may be willing to do a lot more. I would HIGHLY recommend changing your passwords and security settings on everything. If he has access to your cell phone account info then he may have access to other more important things like credit card and bank account information. Stuff like that could mess you up for years.

I also have to say that getting the police involved is going to be inevitable. Once he figures out that he can't mess with your cell account he may step things up a bit and you don't want to wait until it is too late. Serious stalking and harassment is no fun and you don't want things to get to that level, trust me. Get the police involved now and save yourself and your family the hassle in the future.

Also, this really does need to be moved. I'll put it in the lounge so it gets a little more coverage for now.

Just so you know, not EVERY guy will do this kind of thing when you break up. But I'm glad to hear that you are going to the police, that is absolutely the right thing to do here. And definitely let AT&T know about all this, including sending a copy of the police report in if you can figure out who should see it. And why are you worried about your parents becoming involved? Most parents would be more than happy to help their child out when a situation like this comes up! It's not like it's your fault, he's the jackwagon here.

Get the police involved. You pay taxes.

I know you might be afraid to get your parents involved but he wasn't thinking of his family when he potentially started to put you in danger. I've gone to school in Pittsburgh and it's a great city, but you can still have emergencies. If that fool got your phone cut off and you weren't able to use your phone to call for help, your parents would certainly want to know that.

You can only take the high road for so long. Don't let him accuse you of trying to start family drama or any other nonsense. He's crossed the line, in fact, he's gone back and forth across the line.

    lol thanks for the replies

i spoke with someone today in between classes...i mean no harm and hope not to offend anyone when i say this, but i really do not care for police

i hate how they seemed to speak to me as if i was some idiot and saying could i prove it was him and i was like no not a 100% but i said he was the only one with reason to do so...

So my mom is going to go with me tomorrow...she is very...scary lol
so i am likely to get better results

I have met some really nice officers and I've met some real jerks. Thankfully most of them have been pretty nice. It is unfortunate when they don't take something seriously though. I hope your mom can get the proper reaction out of them.

And as expected, my mother got results out of them.
Without saying too much, my mother has a government job and
she knows how to get what she wants from the police department

Long story short, She pretty much let them know how i felt...the cop had the nerve to ask me was it a sexual relationship...and i asked him what does the relationship have to do with anything...

and just made me feel like i wasted their time yesterday
My mother let them know that she will be speaking with a superior about their behavior and made sure to have an officer go speak with him...and his family

I didn't want to involve my parents
    because
1)I'm 18...and i want to learn how to solve problems on my own without running tot hem for everything
2)Just so i don't hear how much she hated him and how she told me so...and she said that today...I told you so lol

So here is to hoping it will stop
and thank you all so much for your help!
