Im having a problem with my Droid X, I just got it second hand, so i dont know if it was rooted in the past but its stock now.
So when I try the OTA update it gets about half way and fails. then reboots and is a normal and then says "update failed"

So i tried another route, I downloaded the update.zip of 2.3 and then booted and told it to apply the .zip file, and now im getting an error 7.

I just want to get to GB, not a huge fan of rooting but i will if i have too, please help! thanks

How exactly did you return it to stock?

What you're describing makes me think that some app or file is missing from the stock rom. Easiest thing to do is just sbf the phone and take the OTA.

Ok, I have cant tell you if i hadnt opened the market app before trying the update, so im going to try a data wipe and then go straight to update, no market no nothing, if that doesnt work ill be sbf-ing the phone, i have it all set up i just dont want to try that till last resort

Opening Market is NBD. If you did, it would try to re-install your apps, which ideally, we wouldn't want until after you were done factory resetting.

Are you good to go now? :D

yup, sounds to me like the phone was returned to stock improperly by the previous owner - in that case, SBF was your only option
