Hey guys, mainly this started because the original Galaxy S2 was flawless, untill it shut down never to turn again; got a new one, and it says its android 4.0.4 which is the ICS OS, but the main thing i've noticed is the buttons are different, and most of all, the gallery is the old gallery from older androids.

Does anyone know how i can fix this? or update this? I try updating it, but it says its up to date!

You might need to update via Kies Mini on the PC.

    Who is your carrier?

Im not familiar with kies, i will try that now. and Boost is the carrier. The funny thing is, i didnt have to use that on my old phone.

Remember samsungs dont run pure android, they run touchwiz. What do you mean about the buttons being different mate?
P.s. what version was the old s3 on?

Sorry, literally got the phone....3 days ago, and the original one that had all the features I loved last week.

well, the buttons on the interface, not on the phone itself, the lay out and style of the main interface buttons on the home screen are different, and when you open the app section thats a different layout, and when you open up Gallery, its not the new style Gallery.

also, it wont let me add fb pictures to the album. it synced with the original phone and showed the albums in my gallery; now with sync all on the FB app, it still doesnt sync the FB pics onto the gallery.

thats the gallery i have on my phone now. the original phone I had looked like it had the ICS gallery on it. I didnt download any apps on my old one or anything. Truthfully, it automatically did everything. download old apps, images, back ups from google. The replacement didnt.

Have you tried resetting the device to factory defaults?

Which version of the S2 do you have? AT&T, Skyrocket, Sprint, T-Mobile, Boost, or Virgin Mobile, or International?

Samsung Galaxy S2 USA BOOST Mobile. android 4.0.4 with that gallery and other useless remnants of the older O/S......All i want to know is if im wrong in thinking that I had something else; which i doubt; or is there something going on that im not aware of. I literally just want the gallery figured out, and the ICS layout.

So the original person that stated Kies was right. Even though, it all said up to date, over the air updates, firmware, profile, etc etc. all of it on the phone said no updates. I just got Kies working(found out USB cord has to be the OE one) after samsung got a hold of it through Kies. took a 5 minute upload, and bam. EXACTLY how I had the original one. Buttons are as i remembered, menus; and THE FLINGIN GALLERY! thank god.

I shall be thanking the original man with the Kies update.

I don't know why Samsung doesn't do the OTA thing much. My S1 came with 2.3, but my sister's came with 2.1 and I had to upgrade it via Kies. And it wouldn't let me skip 2.2 either, lol. Had to update it twice to get her on GB.

Funky....touche; that is VERY rude of me. My apologies, my thanks will be going to everyone right now!

yeah Bjacks, it was definitely something insane. I dont even know why i had to go through this much trouble for it. Tricks on top of tricks. Why not just say "hey, you need kies for updates." not "hey maybe the normal way wont work, you should try six different places for the proper up to date apps and O|S...and you may have the right OS but not the right....OS. " lol

Lol the worst thing about it is that kies is a terrible piece of software. Its enough to make anyone root and be done with it :D

Yeah. I hate having any software on my computer that i don't use. I uninstalled f it immediately after using it. Now that i don't have a Samsung phone, i don't see it ever becoming an issue.

Frankly, I dont see the point of it, other than this update. I will most likely never use it again. I wouldnt mind rooting it, but I dont see much custom stuff id like to do to it. It has mostly the stuff i want. Ill just wait untill the S4 gets cheap. lol.

You could probably have a modified s2 that performs (in real use) as well or better than a stock s4 ;) (disclosure: im a big s2 fan and not much of an s4 fan lol)

me too. it was 199 when i was going to get it, but Boost really messed things up for me, they fixed it, and gave me the phone for 80! lol. but seriously, you've piqued my interest. When i scanned around I didnt see anything about that. Whats the cost? battery life? please. go on. lol and is this a Europe only thing? lol
