Root Jellybean on older phones

Android Area: Galaxy Captivate i897 with Slim ROM Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware [Update]

What do yall think about this. What is a "slim" ROM? Would it even be worth running? Sounds like they might have scrapped some of the reasons to upgrade. But then again, maybe not. Maybe they just cut down on some of the background processes.

I don't know if I'd do it for a daily use phone, but it might be fun to experiment with. I have a couple of Captivates that I use for testing, but I was going to wait a little longer for a stable JB ROM before giving it a whirl. Since the ROM claims to only be 50~70 MB (Standard stock roms are usually over 100MB) I'd say it was stripped down to bare bones. No eye candy, no gapps, no custom launchers ... pretty much OS only.

The Captivate is reaching the end of it's life at least in terms of new development. It's easy to root and there are plenty of stable rom's out there leaving little to be discussed. And I'd guess the most active members here have already moved on to the S3, One X, Note or some other newer device.

A general discussion about JB on legacy devices would be fine in the Android Lounge, but when a specific ROM is included, It's better to keep it in the device forums.

In my opinion, Slimbean isn't worth your time. Unless the major thing you care about is bare-bones performance and high quadrant scores.

I would never use it.

I have been on Slim ICS for a long while now. I flashed Slim JB about two weeks ago and to be honest, I wasn't very impressed. It wasn't the rom, which is well done and very fast, it was more the changes made in JB. I flashed back to ICS.

I'm running the 10/3 nightly of CM10, and so far, no issues. Stay away from the experimental build, though; very laggy.

UPDATE: Installed the 10/13 Experimental build and it was vastly improved in terms of speed. Apparently there was a problem with the first Experimental in that the data partitions weren't right, or something. Anyway, installing the second Experimental worked great. Now I'm on the 10/20 nightly of CM10, and couldn't be happier. I really think JB gave my Cappy new life, and the nice thing is when I install a nightly build, I don't have to wipe anything (I make a backup of everything just in case ).
