Just got a GNex-why no jelly bean?

I switched to wind mobile (Canada) yesterday and had to get a GNex since my Nexus S would not work on their frequencies. My Nexus S has had jelly bean for about a month so I thought it was safe to assume that a GNex would instantly be ready for an update. I have tried the trick of clearing the google services framework data but it isn't working. Is this normal? I can't believe there isn't an update available yet.

My phone is also not showing up in the google play store even though I have accessed the store from the new phone while signed in to my account.

What's the build or whatever of your phone? You can check easily in Maps -> Settings -> About -> Device. My GSM Play Store version is "Samsung takju", for example.

It may be your carrier hasn't pushed JB yet.

But did you have wifi on while trying the Google Framework Services cache trick?

Device is samsung yakjuux. And no, I did not have wifi on. I have an unlimited data connection so I don't have internet in my apartment. I will have to try it on wifi next time I am near a hotspot.

It is because the Yakjuux build has not been updated to JB yet. The only builds Google updates are takju and yakju. The other builds, such as yakjuux are updated by Samsung and the mobile carrier, so you will need to wait for Wind Mobile to update the phone to Jellybean.

The other option, you can flash your phone to be a yakju phone, using these instructions. The other advantage is that you will then get future updates directly from Google rather than having to wait for your carrier to release them.

I have no experience with rooting or anything like that so I will try to avoid having to use this method. Any word on when samsung will push this update? I don't really understand why there would be a significant delay.

Is this different build the reason why it is not showing up in google play?

Unfortunately, most carriers take their sweet time when it comes to pushing out OTA updates for new Android versions (some take longer than others). If we knew all the steps a carrier has to go through before pushing out an OTA update, perhaps we'd have a better understanding of why it takes them so long.

Personally, I think more mobile carriers should snag up some of these custom rom developers. Their in-house devs seem to, well, suck.

I'm still wondering why this phone isn't showing up in the google play store website.

I just went there to check, and it's showing up there as in stock and for sale. I even hit CTRL + F5 to ensure it wasn't a cached page.

Edit: I see you're in Canada. Are they blocking purchases for Canadians?

I should have been more clear. I mean that when I go to download an app from the play store website, my new GNex is not showing up as an option to send the app to. My old phone and my N7 are showing up as options however.

And if you are interested in knowing whether the play store is selling the GNex in Canada, it appears they are not. Maybe it has been blocked.

I have jelly bean on my N7 and had it on my Nexus S until I got this new GNex. Other than google maps being crazy slow on my Nexus S after the update, I have not had any issues with the OS.

I personally have found it break several things from the perfectly acceptable ICS.
I have posted my experiences elsewhere on these boards.
I have found about two things I like, to a dozen I hate.

I had this problem with I first got my G-Nex. I had to go into my Google settings (on my pc, trying to look for it on my phone would of made me scream) and add my new number. If yours is already there, perhaps deleting it and re-adding may help.

Not sure if that will help or not, but it's worth a try.

You could get the next 'best' thing - an iPhone :)

I'm using JB on my Nexus 7 and don't find anything to complain about yet. I guess you have had issues with JB on your device?
