Just got a Nexus S, great phone - love it but I can't seem to sync Facebook contacts, after doing some searching I see Android 2.3.2+ no longer support Facebook Contact Sync, but I really need my contacts to be downloaded of Facebook, is there anyway that another application can do this for me and if so can you point me in the direction of it.

Cheers.

As far as I know, it's not possible to sync your contacts with Facebook, unless you decide to root your device. I'm currently running 2.3.5 and I'm able to sync my FB contacts, but that's only because I'm rooted.

Google disabled contact sync with Facebook on Gingerbread due to Facebook breaking the rules and pulling phone contacts from the phone into Facebook without permission or disclosure.

Just root, install a ROM and it syncs fine.

I'm glad it doesn't sync by default. I don't need 1000 phone numbers of which I may actually call 3 of.

If you don't want to install a ROM, then you can use the app FriendCaster. It is better than the actual Facebook app and it does contact syncing on the stock ROM

No, that tidbit came out after the contact sync exception was removed. The rulebreaking was that the FB contacts weren't actually being stored in your contacts DB and therefor don't get synced with Google Contacts. Google had written an exception in their code just for Facebook. If you disable/remove facebook all those 'synced' contacts go away too. All Facebook has to do is update their app to use the normal app contact sync API instead of their own private backdoor which keeps all the information to itself.
