Hey, just joined the forum. I've been wandering around here for a few weeks getting info and researching. I finally took the leap and rooted my Wildfire S last night with no known issues. Thanks Cafe (I clicked thanks). ;) There is some very helpful info here.

Now I am researching and making sure everything is in place before I install a custom ROM. I have already backed up my stock ROM. Right now my phone is running 2.3.5 and Sense 2.1. Basically it's as if nothing has changed which is fine for now.

I guess first of all, I need to be sure if my phone is Marvel or Marvelc. I'm in the US on T-Mobile and when I boot into the bootloader it says:

    *** UNLOCKED ***
    MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
    HBOOT-1.09.0099
    MICROP-0354
    RADIO-7.53.39.03M

Is this how I know my phone is Marvel and not Marvelc? I just want to be sure.

Next.... I want to install the latest STABLE version of Android that I can. Probably Ice Cream Sandwich. Is there a stable and virtually bug free version of CyanogenMod 9 (I think that's the one)?

Also, how easy is it to revert back to the stock ROM (2.3.5 & Sense 2.1) that I have backed up through clockworkmod?

    Thanks.

Thanks. I realized that it should have gone there after I had posted it. For some reason I missed that section.

    I've been running WildChild3 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842771
since October. it's pre-rooted and much faster/slicker than HTC standard ROM. Also you can Overclock - I'm running @806MHz and rock solid, battery life is around 3 days (2500mAh battery) All apps linked to SD (16Gb) and typically around 65 - 70 Mb free. What's not to like?

Yep, that is how you know it's marvel. Also an even better way is basically the sim card. If you use sim card, you are marvel. If not, you are marvelc (Well not you, your phone :D)

Also, CM9 is nice although not entirely stable. CM10 (Jelly Bean) is better in my opinion but like CM9, not completely stable. The best CM you will find out there is CM 7.2 by alques - not sure if Gingerbread or ICS but I think it's Gingerbread (You should be able to find it in xda forums as well). It's light, gives you loads of free space and no bugs. I've used it for a long time before I got bored of it and decided to change.
But before you change any rom, make sure you make a nandroid backup. So if you ever want to revert like you asked, you can just restore the backup you have. It takes about 3-5mins to restore a rom usually.
