Look for the user SUroot and his guides.
Everything is there, I mean everything.
Anyone else will mention to go there too.

The guides are linked from the "all about rooting" sticky post. It's the rooting FAQ you need for general instructions on how to install a ROM.

You should always read the first few posts of the ROM thread at xda-developers, since particular ROMs may have special requirements. I believe that Sense 3.0 ROMs generally specify the partitioning of the SD card needed, since the full ROM won't fit in the Desire's internal storage (so part is stored on the card). The procedures for this are the same as for creating an ext partition for apps2sd, which are described in the root memory faq, linked from the same sticky post.

As the first post of that thread says, you need at least a 1 GB ext partition on your card (mentioned above). Otherwise I think it should be just as described in the rooting faq.

Can't tell you from experience as I've not used it, but there are a number here who have.

Edit: that post also links to an FAQ/Guide/Tutorial thread for that ROM. When reading that, remember that you have the stock hboot (unless you've also gone S-Off and changed that - you'll know if you have) so only try to install things described as being compatible with stock, S-On setups.

Download it, connect your Phone to the PC and select "disk drive mode" or "mount as disk drive" or whatever it is.

To be honest, if you're not sure on that one, I would seriously consider getting used to your phone before you attempt this kind of thing. And once you are, read, read and read again, all the faq's here
