Just Voided My Eris Over Trackball! Waste!

I Just cracked open my Eris to clean the trackball. No Biggie, mine was the "Get One Free!" Eris.
I've owned BB's in the past and have Popped them out to clean.
Problem is, the trackball was nowhere near being dirty!
I've had some pretty cruddy looking trackballs on my BB so I know what they look like.
Does anyone know of or heard that the Eris trackball is just defective?
I've scanned the posts and have only come across the suggestions to wipe it down with an alcohol swab.
I've done that repeatedly and still get my screens shifting to the left. It's a big problem, I've dialed plenty of people because of this.
I'm just looking for some input from others with this problem, I might just take the trackball out and cover the opening.....

yes, known issue with it scrolling left repeatedly out of the blue

My messed up. Had to get a replacement. It is something to do with the charger port and trackball placement.

one theory is it is a bad ground or something, the screen reacts to your touch VIA electrical sensitivity so if you have rouge current near the screen it goofs it up.

many phones will act funky when plugged in, some will act funky even when not plugged in.

regardless though, if you can duplicate it...get it replaced.

Thanks Caddy! I guess I'll just wait for my contract renew in Feb '11 and move to the Incredible. I do love the Eris, Head and Shoulders over the BB Storm!!!

Mine did the same thing and just kept getting worse. Had to get it replaced.

My brothers did the same. just called and got a replacement. Well you can get an eris on ebay for around $300 or a droid for $379

couldn't someone just make an app that will run your home screen to the left? Then take that into the store and show them, get your replacement and then root it?

That is Fraud my good friend. Please don't get this site in any legal troubles
by plotting to make Fraudulent claims.

Any ways even if someone did that when they go in the back and do the factory reset the app will be gone and the Eris will be fixed.

Um, ok.

I am not promoting fraud and suggesting anyone do this, but just making a statement.

I for one would not for the simple fact that my Eris runs perfectly. I don't want to return it unless it has a problem for the fear that the replacement I get will have issues like some others have been reporting (silent, dialer lag, trackball, ect.).

Mine isn't bad but.. Sometimes it wont scroll left! The good thing is though i never us my trackball

A few weeks after i got mine, it started scrolling left. I was so pissed. I could feel and hear a difference in the track ball when i tried going left. My bf pressed down really hard on it and i guess that popped it back in place. lol. Didn't have any trouble after that

I don't have the problem with it scrolling left...but when I play the Snake game on my phone, I will scroll down with the track ball and it thinks I scrolled up so I die..freakin ticks me off like crazy.

I just did a wipe of my phone, per the posting by Frisco, in hopes that it might clear up this bug.
I'll post my findings in a few days or sooner if the phone acts up again.

if you have insurance on the phone, give them a ring a ding with a crafty explanation to what happened to your phone.

No luck with the Hard Resets. I did however install LauncherPro and have less of an occurrence with the track ball.
Also LauncherPro just updated and I now get my home screen in landscape! Way Cool!

Trying it out. In their screen shots, they show HTC widgets, but I can't see how to add HTC widgets.

I'm not totally sure that this is a trackball only issue. Reason being, my Eris has never done that, but the wife's Incredible has, and it has no track ball. I'm leaning more towards an OS or UI issue.
