K9 Mail - Unread and message highlighting

I have been using K9 for a little while and find it a very usefull and featured mail app.
My only problem is that I find it hard to be able to easily view which messages are read and unread. I find it hard spot the messages in bold.
Also, the app highlights in grey messages that have not fully downloaded.
I am looking to see if there are options in K9 mail to alter these.
I am looking to see if there are options to alter how the unread messages are displayed, as well as the partialy downloaded ones.

If you were to change to the dark colour scheme, would that make things a little easier?

Menu -> More -> Settings -> Global -> Display -> Theme

I do agree with our head of state there, changing to the dark theme makes things a little easier but, AFAIK, that's as far as the theme customization of K9 goes.
