Root Kernel questions

I downloaded the 748 kernel from the wiki page and flashed it. I rebooted my phone and got past the Huawei screen and my phone loaded all the way to my homescreen. Then I noticed my notification bar was all screwed up. I tried to go into my settings menu and it was the same. It looked like when you change your resolution on your desktop. Everything else was operational. Does this mean this kernel will not work at all for my Ascend or are there some other tweaks the I can perform to correct this so I can OC my phone?

That happens to me every time I flash that kernel. And just like you said boot will be fine and home screen will be fine but the status bar is jacked like that and when I open say settings like in the pic its jacked like that. I dont think there is anyway to "fix" it some phones just hate that kernel. If all you want is to oc to a higher mhz then 710 BobZ's 0708 build oc's to 729

Will his kernel work in the 0728 CM7?

The 729 kernel? Uhh yeah Im pretty sure it would, only problem is it isnt like the 748mhz kernel where you can flash to whatever CM7 Its built into his 07082011 (729mhz) build so if you wanted to oc to 729 and cant run the 748mhz kernel you'd have to flash to BobZ's 7.1RC1 inorder to run at 729mhz. You could run at 729 on CM 7.2 0728 but only if you could run that 748Mhz kernel. So youd have to flash to BobZ's 0708 729 build to run at 729 since you cant run the 748.

I'm running that ROM and it does not have a setting for 729MHz the max it shows is 710MHz

You CAN run at 729 or even 748 on CM 7.2 IF you can run the 748 kernel.

Heres the 748 overclock kernel, give it a shot if you want but be warned ALOT of phones hate this kernel. So make a Nandroid back up before flashing it.
