I want to install different keyboards on my nooted nook color using Android 3. But it's not like Android 2. The settings for keyboard just have 3 options, none of which are to enable different installed keyboards. What am I missing? Thanks.

Setup your keyboard in settings/keyboard, then find an app that wants keyboard input, like email, long press in the field and choose "input method" and pick your keyboard.

I know, not at all intuitive. :D

Thanks. Actually, that's exactly what I do on my Android 2.2. smartphone. But this version of Android 3 on the Nook gives me only 3 items in Keyboard Settings -- 3 checkboxes -- 1. Keyboard Sounds, 2. Auto-capitalization and 3. Quick Fixes. Nothing else is there. There is nothing to enable different keyboards. It may be the particular version of nooter that I chose. But is there some way to get back the full set of keyboard options that I had in 2.2?

    If you nootered latest B&N 1.2, you have Froyo, 2.2, o/w 2.1.

Install keyboard, choose it in keyboard settings, choose "input method" to select it.

What keyboard did you install? Did you install it from Market? Maybe it's not compatible.

I like SwiftKey, which I got as free-app of the day from Amazon.

But Keyboard Settings does not have "input method. It has only "keyboard sounds", "auto-capitalization" and "quick fixes". Three checkboxes, that's all.

    GW, you didn't read this:

So open your web browser or reply to an email, anything that brings up the keyboard, and long-press where the new text goes and choose "input method" from the menu that comes up. :D

    ManualNooter-4-6.16.zip

Long press gives me only the current keyboard, no other choices. No other keyboard has been turned on, and there is no setting available which allows me to enable the other one I downloaded. Only the 3 choices I noted above.

Well, I found what appears to be a solution. "NookColor Tools" says that the keyboard apk file needs to be transferred to /system/app for it to work. Now how do I do that? When I plug the Nook into my Mac usb port, it gives me only the nook bookreader files, not the root files. So it looks like I need to copy the file over within the Nook itself. But I haven't found an android app for transferring files. Actually I have AndExplorer, but I don't know if it can transfer files. Maybe I just don't understand the app well. Or do I need some other app?

Then sounds like you installed an incompatible keyboard or didn't enable it.

(again), what keyboard? Did you install it from Market? :D

I'm trying to use SlideIT, and I don't think it's incompatible. It's just that I can't enable it. But maybe the method I mentioned in my previous post will help, if I can figure out how to transfer the file from the SD card to /system/app.

I see 15 day trial and $5.99 versions in Market.
