Kies 3 w/KitKat won't transfer

Have downloaded Kies 3 to Win 8.1 laptop. Connect to S4 (KitKat) via USB. Log onto http address and input PIN from phone. Phone screen shows connected, states I can transfer items via browser. PC browser shows all content I might want to transfer, but no way to do so. Start Kies 3 on PC; shows no connected devices, tells me to connect. Same thing whether I start Kies first or browser first. S4 is clearly connected and contacts, calendar, etc. are available, but Kies on PC doesn't think so. Help???
