Help Kies app store doesn't recognize connection

I recently bought my Galaxy Ace and downloaded Kies, I've been told I need to select Kies instead of Mass Storage Device in my phone settings but I can't find this option anywhere plus as far as I know my phone automatically connects to Kies.

My problem is in the app store of Kies, according to it my phone is not connected and so I can't install apps via it. Picture:

I am having the same problem, have re-installed updated drivers even tried to use the usb tethering setting..nothing seems to work. Samsung app support site just reported errors each time I tried to get an answer...am now at a loss...???
