Support Kindle Fire battery charger to charge phone?

    I noticed that the amperage output on the Kindle Fire charger is pretty high (1.8 or 1.6 A if I remember correctly). That's quite a bit higher than standard cell phone chargers at 850 mA or my Galaxy Nexus charger at 1.0 A.

    Could I use the Fire charger on my Nexus, and if I do, will it charge faster?

    This may be a dumb question, I'm just curious. Thanks!

    If it did work it would probably shorten the Nexus battery life being charged at a higher rate than the battery is designed to be.

    It would not be good for the lithium battery to be charged at such a high rate.

    Any 5 volt charger with enough amperage capacity for your phone will charge your phone at the exact same rate. It will not harm your phone battery, nor your Kindle charger, but your phone will neither charge more nor faster. The extra amp capacity of the Kindle charger will not be used, as the phone's charging circuitry controls that. What would damage your phone would be charging it via a higher voltage charger, higher than 5 volts. Don't do that to the Kindle either, of course...

    I do this all the time with my Droid 3. No problems. Charging with a too small amperage capacity takes longer, but that's all. Any 5 volt charger capable of enough amperage is identical in effect.

    Exactly. Amperage rating isn't a rating of output, it's a limit of how much juice can be "sucked out" by the device it's plugged into.
