Kingo Root on Windows 8.1

I am trying to root my Verizon Ellipsis 7 and have read that Kingo will do that. I am in USB debug mode and have Kingo installed on Windows 8.1. My tablet shows that I am connected to my PC but Kingo only says "connecting" for a bit and then it tells me to connect my device. Anyone else know how I can root this tablet...I just want to delete bloat ware and play around with it a bit?!?
