Did you do a Factory Data Reset after the upgrade?
Did you Wipe the Cache Partition?

I just ordered a new moto x. Will it arrive loaded with 4.4? Also, how do you avoid auto install of current phone apps, etc. when activating it?

It will arrive with Jellybean most likely. I got mine in the mail about a week ago and it had Jellybean 4.3 still on it when I booted it up. But it noticed there was an update available right away and started downloading Kitkat. So before you start setting up your device with all your apps and settings, I recommend just going through the update.

@AVSkillet...Thanks. Can you do this before or after calling Verizon to activate the phone?

My Moto X came December 30th.

right after I activated it and used Motorola migrate to move everything from my Droid Razr on board, it wanted to install 4.4 Kit Kat.

I let it happen and for me it was a huge mistake.

For me, 4.4.2 sucks.

I have grown accustomed to a sharp professional looking screen that is black with white/blue text for e-mail and recent phone calls, etc. That is now gone and irretrievably gone at that. Now all emails listed are on an off white light grey screen with dark grey text. It looks more like an early kindle e-reader than a sharp professional looking piece of hardware. I was upset when my Nexus 7 2013 wifi 16gb installed 4.4 and left me hanging. Kit Kat has very limited menus and most everything is not labled so not always intuitive.

To make matters worse, most of my emails now arrive with un-highlighted dead hyperlinks. I have been relegated to go back to the small screen on my phone to check my emails where the emailed links from a couple forums and other places still worked. This was early December.

Fast forward to Dec 30th and my new Moto X arrives. I activate it and it worked great and then immediately wanted to install 4.4 so, not thinking, I let it. Now the phone is just as bad as the tablet.

I am considering having Motorola exchange my phone for a new one like it and then not let 4.4 install.

Does anyone else have any suggestions for making this 4.4 lump of coal more useful to me???

is it possible to literally (permanently...or at least until otherwise reversed) "stop" the update? i was under the impression that at some point it would automatically force itself onto the phone, like it or not?

btw...are there any other concerns with your update, such as any lag, or odd performance issues? i'm coming from a Razr Maxx that has slowed to the point of almost freeze (it HATES Ice Cream Sandwich....and yes, i HAVE done a zillion factory resets, and i clear the cache as often as i brush my teeth! lol), and LAG is my number one fear.

thanks.

I'm n a Droid Maxx.

You could investigate alternative dialers and e-mail apps in Play Store until you found one that you liked.

I use Gmail and the screen is black on white and the imbedded links are active ... click on one and transfer.

Something else ... it is recommended that you do a Factory Data Reset after installing Kit Kat (or any major upgrade). If you installed Kit Kat and then did the Factory Data Reset and then added your apps it would save you some work.
