Kobo – one of the leading eBook platforms – has just released their Android app. Kobo will draw you in by their selection and the ability to move between a plethora of devices without fear of your content being tied down. Alongside the millions of titles they have in their own bookstore, they’ve partnered with [...]

As far as I can tell it's the exact same as the beta. Looks like they haven't made any improvements or bug fixes yet.

It definitely is much better than the old Shortcovers app but it still has a very long ways to go.

These were some of my recommendations that I sent to Kobo Support last week to give you guys an idea of some of the issues:

I have noticed some bugs and have some suggestions as well.
I am using a Motorola Droid with stock 2.1.

    First the bugs:
1: If you go to the book details option of a downloaded book and than click on the about tab there is no description text. This only happens on downloaded books, if you look at books in the store that you have yet to download the descriptions do show up.
2: In shelf view books that don't have cover art just show the placeholder art of a black book and there is no way to tell what the book is. I would suggest changing this plain text of the title so you can at least tell what book it is.
3: Night mode works fine for books but if you back out into the library or go to the store you will get blinded by the bright white background. I would suggest carrying over the night mode to the other sections so it isn't so jarring when you back out of a book you are reading.
4: If you happen to be in an area with no signal you can't even open the app and view books you already have downloaded. I assume it has something to do with authenticating your login or something of that nature. Is there any way you can tie it to the phone hardware identification so we can read even when we don't have signal?
5: Performance, right now scrolling is rather sluggish when looking through my library or browsing for new books.
6: The app doesn't seem to recognize screen taps very well when reading a book. I usually have to tap the screen several times to get it to advance. I don't have this problem when viewing the library or browsing the store.

1: Please, oh please add the option to change pages by utilizing the volume buttons. I would much rather do that than have to place my finger on the screen every time I want to change the page. Other apps have this option, such as Aldiko. (www.aldiko.com).
2: I really like the shelf view but I am disappointed we can have different sections. I would like to have a shelf for what I haven't read yet, what I've completed and what I might like to read again. Being able to personally organize my books would be great.
3: This suggestion is one I've made about the regular Kobo site as well: please show when a book is in a series and give me links to the other books in a series. I hate the fact that I have to go off site to figure out what books are in a series and the order they should be read. I just think it is rather silly that a site whose sole purpose is to promote and sell books doesn't make it easy for it's customers.
4: Allow clicking on authors names to show other books that they have written. I know I can do a search but it would be much more convenient to just simply click on the name and see a list.
5: Allow adjusting the backlight in app. And if possible put in the ability to go darker than the usual minimum darkness. I have an app called dimmer which is able to do this but having the option in app would be great. You could try contacting the developers of the app (mippin.com) if you need help.
6: An option to bookmark multiple sections, right now all we get to bookmark is whatever is the last page we have read.
7: Allow us to rate the books from the app and maybe incorporate some social aspects like discussions.

I hope I have been of some help to you and I look forward to seeing how the app develops.

    Thanks for your time,

I can think of more improvements but these were what I had on my mind when I sent my message last week.

The core functionality is there and I have read around 2 or 3 books on it already.

From the few reviews on the market some people with certain devices are having issues that I haven't experienced on the Motorola Droid.

Had this on my Pre and loved it. Out of all the suggestions the only one I feel is useful is clicking on the authors name and organizing the books how you want.

When I try and search there is no button to hit after typing in what I am searching for.

Same question: I can't find it in the marketplace. Not when I search for "Kobo," not when I search for "e-reader" or "ereader." And way too much comes up when I search for "e-book" or "ebook" (tons of ebooks come up). Where and how have some of you found the new Kobo ereader app?
FYI: I'm using a Samsung Moment.
