    What do you guys recommend?

I work in a small office where it would be useful to have an open chat window all day long so we can communicate with each other. I don't want to use the traditional clients such as AIM, Yahoo!, etc. because those are primarily for one-to-one messaging and group chats take too long to set up and log in to. Ideally I'd find something similar to g-chat but 6-way, so everyone can see everything everyone says.

I've downloaded a few from download.com but haven't installed them yet.

    Thanks for your input!

Try google search by "lan messenger" keyword. Usually these programs have a chat room as additional option, you can chat without any problems. IRC isn't a best choice for the office.

I worked a company where we did this and it worked great. Back then, we used BitchX (yes that's the real name of it).
