Okay I been googling and searching then landed here. It says something else here too...

I am trying to figure out what is the largest capacity SD card I can use in a G1 before I buy. Reviews/HTC says 4GB, This site said 8GB somewhere, I yearn for 16GB so I can kick my iPod out

Can someone help me out? Input is nice, thanks

A little bit of googling shows that the G1 allows 16Gb SD cards without any firmware upgrades, google specified 8Gb at the time of release as they could not get their hands on a 16Gb card for verification. A safe bet for google, and a nice surprise for us.

32gb may also work ... I have not been able to find a source yet ... However 16GB works fine have had one installed since 22 Oct with no issues

So you do have a 16GB SD memory card in it right now and it works fine?

If so - my god this is amazing news to me as I was dreading having to downgrade from 16GB to 8GB :D:D

I read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that 128GB is the theoretical max size allowed by android, (Tested on a simulator) but because the biggest made to my knowledge is 32gb, and you can't find one of those to buy yet.

What is the deal between Class 4 and Class 6 memory - its inducing a huge price difference

    Can someone elaborate on that?

So I can safely assume that it would be better to get a Class 6 card?

Well honestly I think it will affect some stuff

Like pictures and video, that stuff is induced by write speed, right? And downloading?

Your friend is correct...you need Micro SD, not just SD. I got the A-Data 8 GB card for Christmas yesterday from NewEgg, and it works great...$18.00 +/- for a class 6 card...great deal! Free shipping too...or at least it was when my wife ordered it!

The manual says that is handles up to a 16GB. Walmart has one on sale for $77. That's the cheapest I've seen from a regular store. Ebay has them for about $50.
