    LauncherPro

So the devoloper of Launcher Pro just released not only an update to Launcher Pro Beta (it's a small update) but ALSO released his new paid version... Launcher Pro Plus!!!

He has created Launcher Pro versions of the missing HTC Widgets that people have been complaining about not having, such as the People Widget, Friends Widget, Bookmark Widget, etc :D

ETA - Right now only the people widget is available. The others are coming soon...

Right now it is $2.99. He says that the price will likely go up soon as he starts adding more widgets though, so get it now!

    I am so excited ;)

    Update from LP on 7/22/10:

The latest version of LauncherPro (v0.7.0.2) is now available on the Android market.

Now that LauncherPro has gotten a foothold, the devloper has announced LauncherPro plus to help fund development.

nice! so does that mean if we pay.. later on we can upgrade for free with ALL the updates?.. because this wont be on the market he says due to the country in which he lives in. i prefer updating through the market.. but i'll glady pay a few bucks for a nice launcher

Just paid the $2.99 bargain price, this is a fantastic launcher couldn't believe it was free before. The widgets look like they're going to be major winners

Yes, that's why he says to get it now before he raises the price.

I am pretty sure you'll need to update through his site though. He just mentioned in his forum that he is thinking of simply adding an unlock code to the Beta Version which will make that easier. We'll have to wait and see how that works.

Yeah... as much as I am a fan of LauncherPro, this is why I'm wondering if my $2.99 will be worth anything as soon as HTC gets wind of this.

Then again, I guess it's pretty hard to make a custom design of a bunch of faces in a grid layout so I wonder if there's anything they can do unless he copies things that are not-so-generic like the Weather widget.

I should probably point out that as of today, he only has the People Widget up and running. The others are coming soon. I totally missed this when I read the update so I thought I would post it in case others missed it, too.

I’ll be adding these widgets over the next couple of weeks. The “People” widget is available right now to LauncherPro Plus users. There’s going to be other features in the future that will be available only to Plus users too.

I doubt it. As Haelous mentioned, these are not complicated widgets to design. Anyone could have done it.

Also, the dev mentioned that he has to release the paid version of his app on his website because Market doesn't allow paid app's from his country. So if he's not in the US and the app isn't in the market, I don't think there is much they can do.

We'll see, but I am not too worried about it. :D

    Mine went through perfectly.

Download the file. Change the extension to .apk

Transfer to SD Card. Open Astro, click on Launcher Pro and follow the instructions to install from there.

I don't doubt it. Its not the degree of difficulty, its the fact that it looks almost identical.

Same thing has happened with Beautiful Widgets, as well as Fancy Widget.

    HTC will throw a fit.

The only thing I'm worried about is the C&D order from HTC will render this useless. Seriously why doesn't HTC sell these widgets on the Market, they would make a fine amount from it. In fact they should just stop placing Sense on the phones and sell the sense experience on the market.

Honestly I don't care if it makes it worthless. The 2.99 is worth it, the app should have been at least that much from the get go

Now thats a good idea. HTC would make a killing because I think that is the number one reason why most people stay with sense or are "jealous" of sense...the widgets.

Also, I dont mind paying 3$ and have it taken down tomorrow. Im more than happy to give Fede my money :D

Yeah I feel the same way. The amount of work this guy has put in, even if it gets crushed, at least I bought him a beer.

I'm minoring in Technology Law/Crime and I'll tell you right now, HTC can threaten all they want, but even with their expensive lawyers a judge would throw any case out immediately.

The most plausible case would be for an HTC Sense clock since that brings brand recognition, but with a few changes it wouldn't stand up.

    +1

this is seriously the best news ever. if he can avoid the c&d and i can get widgets like the sense friendstream and calendar, i am IN. i've missed lp, been using sense because i love the widgets. and i so agree with you about paying for the app, i basically just paid 2.99 for all the great use i've had out of lp, even back on my moto droid. anything further is gravy.

Same thing here. I'm had to download it to my computer and transfer. Dont know why it wont work on the actual phone, has anyone successfully downloaded and installed this from their phone?

EDIT: I cant get this thing to work. I downloaded it to my mac but its a zip file so I deleted the ".zip" part and tried to install it on my phone and it says it cant be loaded.

i downloaded it straight from the link the dev sends to your paypal account email addy. you click on that first link, then you put in the super secret user/pass, and then it takes you to a file to download. click on that, and it goes to your phone's download area. then you click that, and it installs. that's how it worked for me, anyhow.
