Can people please post how they are getting on with their Legend and wifi connectivity- mine is a pos and I am close to drop kicking it into the nearest bin, and I cannot believe I am the only one struggling with this.

Phone: Vodafone UK branded, sw number 1.32.161.4
Router: Netgear DG834G using wpa/wpa2
symptoms: will connect 1 time, then requires power cycle on the router before it will connect again. All other wireless devices can reconnect in this time without a problem.

Fine on the 'n' version of your router using wpa2 on the same version of phone software. Is your router software up to date? That router has also had a lot of different hardware revisions too, so might be worth looking at the router more closely.

Sure you don't just need to manually reconnect as the phone does appear to disconnect the wireless now and again if It's left, maybe to conserve power? Have a search on here, others have had similar issues and have used apps to keep the connection up.

I've got a Vodafone branded Legend , same software version as yours.

I've got a BT wireless router.

I've never had a single problem. All I do is toggle the wi-fi switch on my Legend and it connects.

I have a belkin as well

set up when I got my phone, works perfect now, just need to toggle on/off wifi once, and bam! I can get on the internetz/market.

... Aust. Legend.

Router s/w is all up to date, and as an experiment I set the router security settings to wep instead this weekend, but still it does exactly the same. Without wifi the phone is next to useless at home, and if it isn't compatible with my router (the most popular router in the UK) then that is pretty ridiculous.

I've never come as close to hurting a gadget in my life!! Its incredibly frustrating. WiFi is useless on mine. My setup is a Sky supplied router. I've tried changing various settings on the router to no avail. It connects 8 out of 10 times and works for a few minutes then disconnects without warning. I put it down to poor signal strength, as I rerely get higher than on bar unless I stand beside the router. My 2 Macs and a PC laptop, plus my wife's blackberry can get full signals all over our house, and never drop connections. So I've concluded its not the routers problem. Many reviews, like Engadget, stated the poor wifi performance of the Legend... I hoped they were early review/production models. I was wrong.

On a side issue cellular web access is not much better sometimes, with sites constantly failing to load... all in all I'm growing less impressed with this HTC. At least my iPhone 'Just Worked'! I hope its a problem that can be fixed with software otherwise HTC will have a large number of returns. This is why I agree with some reviewers who said the metal body is blocking signals.

I emailed HTC asking about the problem, as talking to Vodafone is like talking to a brick wall... a really dumb one!

Here is HTC's reply:

Dear Drew, Thank you for contacting HTC Europe. We are aware of the problem and we are working on the problem. If you have any further questions please contact us again. Regards HTC.

At least that sounds hopeful, otherwise I'm locked in to a 2 year contract with a paper weight.

Drew

Well at least HTC seem like they are looking into it. Mine is definitely trying to connect, when you go into the wireless settings, it says "connecting" in the little status box next to wifi on/off, then after a few seconds it says "disconnected". It can see my network, and when I select on it and say connect it does the same "connecting" thing again.

I have exactly the same symptoms also netgear DG834. The only way of getting it to reconnect is cycling the power on the router. This is not an antenna problem as it always detects a good signal. Tried all securty settings from no security to WPA2 and switching off wifi "sleep". Also tried turning off DHCP and assigning the MAC address of the phone directly but that didn't help. I can't seem to tie it down to any given repeatable circumstance and it's very intermittent i.e. may be ok for several days then fails several times in one day.

Just wondering if htc have come up with anything yet??

Love the phone otherwise.

Cheers, David

guys i need help, i bought htc legend today, and i'm sitting beside my router since 2 hours trying to connect my legend through wifi, my wifi connection is not even detected in legend, while i'm able to browse on my laptop using the same wifi,
some one pls help me on wat to do, its really frustrating.

My experience has been good.

I use timeriffic to go from WiFi to 3G data via Aeroplane mode (7am WiFi OFF; 7:05am AP mode ON; 7:10 AO mode OFF), works perfectly,

Mine works great. At home i have asus wireless router and pretty good range with it. Also tried it on various WiFis and works great...

no problems with the wifi connections, seem to be a little bit on the weak side for distance, seeing how my laptop will have a much stronger signal where my phone doesn't, but overall no major issues that makes me want to dropkick my phone \

@balachanderraidu is your SSID hidden??

k, i got it, my phone is detecting wifi signals from routers.
but when i try to connect to my laptop through AD-HOC, it is not detecting.

i made my laptop into a wifi hot spot using AD-HOC, another laptop is able to connect to the network, but not my phone.

anyone came across dis problem?

If I remember reading somewhere that unfortunately android doesn't supports ad-hoc internet access yet.

My WiFi strength has been awful on my Canadian Legend. Way, way worse than my older Nokia E71. I think I've only seen 4 full "bars" on the wifi strength meter maybe once in my life, and it's when I was 2 feet from the router. Very poor.

I have 2 Legends - one VF branded with the same version as you & one unlocked running 1.31.405.5 - both are fine with my Virgin supplied router and connect as I approach my house..

My first Legend (returned because of faulty camera) seemed fine; its replacement drops wifi all the time and seems to be shamed into reconnecting when I investigate in the 'Wifi' bit on the phone.

I haven't experienced any problems regarding wifi. My Legend connects several times a week to wifi through a number of routers of different brands, without any problems.

Mine sometimes drops the connection... turning WiFi off and on again fixes it. Annoying, but not a dealbreaker, i love this phone.

Switching from WiFi to 3G data sucks imo.
Is there a fix for it without having to go through Airplane mode or restarting phone.

I have no problems with wifi in general, but:

1) Turn on wifi.
2) Recieve/send mail without problems
3) wait 5 minutes
4) Recieve/send mail: Does not work. "No route to host" or "Network unreachable"
5) Browsing/facebook etc. works fine
6) turn off/on wifi: Mail works again (for a short time)

I have tried with some other mail programs (K-9), but it has the same problem. No problems recieving mail over 3G (even though I do not use that a lot). It also happens with two different wifi networks (one secured by WPA2, one by WPA).

I have no idea what might cause this. Any ideas?
