I'm guessing it is the facebook app then. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
    To do this:

    • Tap on Settings.
    • In Settings tap on Applications.
    • Now tap on Manage applications.
    • You'll now see a listing of installed applications.
    • Tap on Facebook for Android.
    • On the next screen you'll see information about the program.
    • Tap the Uninstall button.
    • You'll be prompted to see if you're sure. If so, tap OK.
    • You'll be told that the app has been uninstalled.
Then go to the Market and search for Facebook for Android and install it.

You will probably have to set it up again, but that shouldn't take long and hopefully will fix the problem.

It must have come preinstalled then. I would try skipping to last step and looking on market, there might be an update out for it.

Yes. That's what you have to do. I had the same problem, downloaded newer version in the Market and now it's snappy and reliable.
