I've had the 4G enabled sim card for the Lenovo k3 note but never activated it in a year. Was doing fine with 3g.

Made the mistake of activating the LTE option in Mobile Networks. Automatically, the 4G started. Unfortunately the moment I returned home, the wifi which works fine otherwise stopped working. Connects automatically but nothing opens. Switched back to WCDMA and GSM options. But the damage was done. Nothing works on wifi anymore. Updated the android, restarted the phone, switched the SIM card position .

Any bright ideas as to how to get any wifi to work on the device?

4G shouldn't affect the WiFi. I always use 4G and no issues with WiFi. Probably just a coincidence. Have you tried forgetting the network and re-adding it?

Remove sim card wait few minutes
    insert sim card.
    If possible remove battery and
    put back.
Go to settings >storage>cached data>clear cached data.
    Reboot /restart device.
