I'd like to see what some real world speeds are for specific carriers. We all know what they promise, but lets see what they're actually delivering.

    Phone: Evo 4g
    Carrier: Sprint
    Location: Phoenix, AZ
No Wimax in town, so 3g only

Last night at 11:04 PM: 217 kbps up, 273 kbps down

And that is during the low traffic hours.

When you say real world, are you just using speedtest.net app or something else?

Yeah, using speedtest.net app since their website doesn't seem to work with my phone.

^^That depresses me; I can't even get that fast on my home broadband :(

    Anyways.

    Phone: HTC One X
Carrier: Orange (but I use the T-Mobile signal at home)
    Location: Inverness, Scotland

The icon says 4G, but that's just what the dev of the ROM I'm on at the moment uses for HSDPA.

6 Mbps is pretty good. It is low for what At&t is claiming of their LTE speeds, but it will certainly get the job done.

In reality speed tests are a lot like benchmark tests. They are cool to see for the sake of comparison, but real world application is much more important. If your phone were to get 500 Mbps in speed tests, but didn't perform that way when downloading or streaming media then it wouldn't really matter. As long as the speeds you see in the test reflect your real world needs with the phone then you are doing good.
