Hello. I bought/activated a Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V. When I add a contact, there is no option to add the contact to the phone ONLY. It only has the Gmail account. I don't want to create contacts in my Gmail account. I want contacts I add to stay in the phone.

    How do I do this?

    Thanks in advance.

Why wouldn't you want your contacts saved to gmail? Its a smartphone saving contacts to the phone is just..not smart.

You can go to contacts.google.com and create a "phone only" group of contacts and sync only that group to the phone if you wish. But there is no "phone only" contacts option. It syncs your contacts from your google contacts. Which is very handy, actually, if you ever need to reset your phone, or you get a new android device, your contacts are sync'd back without re-entering all of them. You can also enter them at the website instead of typing them on the phone which is another convenience.

You can set the phone so that only the Gmail messages are sync'ed. The Gmail contacts sync operation can be disabled via the Gmail app, tap on app to open Gmail, click on [Menu] button, tap on 'Accounts' tab, click on [Menu] button, tap on 'Accounts settings' tab, look under the 'Manage Accounts' section, and tap on the 'XXXX@gmail.com, Sync in ON' account of interest if you've more than one Gmail accounts set up. This will display the settings for the three Sync Options (Contacts, Gmail and Calendar data), tap on the options to check/uncheck. There may be simpler means of accessing these controls but I just discovered this a couple of days ago. I also did not want my Google Voice and Gmail contacts to sync with the phone's contacts, and this is how I disabled the sync. I only have the Gmail sync option checked/enabled. HTH...

....or create a different gmail account for your phone contacts and sync that instead of your main gmail.

But i made a "phone" group in my main gmail account and only sync that.
