Last night when I got home from work I locked my phone right before I went to sleep, I think I even fell asleep then woke up to lock it. Anyway this morning I can't remember the unlock pattern, after so many attempts it asks me to put in my Google account info which is not working. I've been googling for an answer all morning and this seems to be an open issue with Android phones, I'm not sure if this is fixed in the froyo update or not. Anyway is there a sure fire way to get my phone back without returning to At&t?

Thanks in advance for any help.

This is crazy, I've searched all this morning looking for and answer to this issue, this may be the main weak point with Android! I've had to revert back to my water-damaged iPhone 3G, lol, that still is tried and true after 2 years of abuse. Funny I'm updating to 4.0.2 as I type this. I do love my Samsung Captivate but the "it just works" mentality of Apple is really kicking in right now. The Android software is half-baked with awesome hardware to compensate.

Yeah, I had that same problem with mine. It will never accept the google login information. The only way I got around mine was that I finally hit the right combination on the pattern.

The lock screen is really broken. I am not a big fan of this particular lock screen anyway.

When setting or when trying to unlock ?

Me I like the unlock pattern, only at 6 dots right now, might redo it to go to more :)

Not sure, I'm not the OP. I just figured beer could cause one to forget.

  9. It is unfortunate that you forgot your code, but I think it hardly seems fair for you to blame Android when YOU are the one that forgot the code. I'm not trying to be rude, and I do hope you get it figured out, but I don't want it to be easy for someone to get into my locked device without knowing the proper code.

seriously, i just set it to a pattern that i draw naturally when doing nothing

I agree, it's sorta the reason for having a code :)

Im not blaming android for me forgetting, but if you offer me the option to input my google account info it should work, that part of android is broken. I usually draw the same pattern but i was dead tired and cant remember exactly what pattern i drew last night. Anyway, beware for you will be forced to take it back to the at&t store and deal with those monkeys.

The guy basically tried everything i've tried already and then reluctantly gave me a brand new phone, adding in what would you do if you were after your 30 days return period.

If you google this issue you would see its unresolved in android so hopefully froyo fixes this with the numerical lock. But if uou ask fir my google account credentials then that should work.

I don't bother with locking the phone because it's too much of a pain to fool with (I use No Lock - free from the Market). My concerns are offset by the finder's inability to make international calls as I have this capability disabled.

Guess what? I didn't lock myself out of my Captivate today lol!

But seriously my first thing was to try out the GPS and it works. My locks are dead on and strong signal. I even get a lock in the house which is crazy, it's so accurate now. I must have gotten one of the newer ones, blame me for being an early adopter.

From what I've read, you need to put the entire gmail account including the @gmail.com, not just the first part.

To those smashing the OP for forgetting the pattern..yea that's bad, but the more likely case is a kid playing with it and locking it out..so yes the google account recovery thing should work...

So I just had the same problem and could not find the solution on line. I ended up calling Samsung help line and I was surprised how helpful they were.

They instructed me to turn off the phone, remove the battery and the sim card.
Next put the battery back in the phone and hold down both the up and down volume buttons as well as the power on button until you see what appears to be a Bios looking screen.
Next using the volume up and down buttons to navigate, highlight the delete all user data and confirm with the power button.
Then you will have to confirm yes using the same method above.
Now restart the phone without the sim card in it. It will go to a screen that confirms you do not have a sim card in it.
Now power down the phone yet again, insert the sim card and restart the phone.

Now just restore your phone from backup and away you go.

PERFECT! Thanks much to CC Captivate for that answer. That worked perfectly.

I bought a used Captivate from Ebay, perfect condition, but the noob sent it with the lock pattern set and wouldn't return my email questions. Of course, the phone didn't recognize my email and I have been searching for hours for an answer. Great job!
