Locked out of my G1. With no data plan. Am I tost?

If this is a duplicate I apologize. I'm locked out of my G1. I'm using the correct credentials for the account, but no dice. I don't have a data plan. The phone is connected via WiFi.

My question: Is the phone not having a data plan what is keeping it from authenticating even though it is connected to WiFi?

I added a data plan for the next few days. So far I still can't get in. To save on battery life I turned off the data roaming (before the I was locked out). So it looks like a hard rest is the only other option.

this has happened to countless people, whether or not they had a data plan.
it happened to me too.
reset is the only option
