HI guys, im new to this so please bare with me, im all new to this, ive just become an android fan after moving from the iphone, i recieved my HTC desire hd yesterday from 3....ok frankly i have no clue on how to remove the 3 logo that comes with it, it makes the phone really slow to start up...

i need to remove it, so ill go step at a time, im afraid to start using the phone, install apps and evrything, set up email accounts, use htc sense incase i have to remove everything again or format it....ive been trying to read on numerous forums and trying to get used to the terms u guys use...but im still a little confused as i cant seem to find anyone here mentioning how to remove the 3 logo from scratch....

I would like the original htc firmware once ive got rid of the logo, well yes for now since i dont know much about the customs Roms yet....so was wondering ill do things slowly, if i can remove the 3 logo and install an htc original firmware....anytime in the future could i install a custom one or would i have to delete all the games, and information from the phone evrytime i choose to install a custom ROM....

So in summary could someone please explain step by step how i can remove the logo...oh and people here were mentioning something about RUUs, what are they...no idea....please if u could help, would be great...Im kinda confused wat a goldcard is 2...its all new to me so please be paient

Kind Regards, B, phone is awesome by the way

    Welcome.

The only way to remove branding is to root your phone. This in turn grants you superuser permissions, which basically opens up the android os.
From here you can install (flash) custom roms, kernels & radios, of which there are plenty. (xda)

However, If you have a build number higher than 172.xxx.xx (2.2.1 aka froyo update), you will also need to downgrade your phone to 2.2; as 2.2.1 stops rooting. (see 'about phone' options in settings)

RUU (Rom Update Utility) - this is a program that returns your phone back to its original 'out the box' state (but not quite, see goldcard below). This is only really necessary should you need to send your phone back for repair under warranty. This program is an executable file that sits on your pc, pretty much a one click does all type thing.

Goldcard - once you've run the RUU on your phone, the next thing is to return the locking & branding. Unlike the RUU that you get off the internet (various sources), the goldcard you need to make before doing anything major. The goldcard is specific to your phone. Again, only needed for warranty purposes.

Flashing roms shouldn't affect what's on your sd card, but any apps you have, contacts, sms, email accounts etc will be lost, so BACKUP! (paid apps will be waiting for you when you re-enter the market)

I'm not sure if you can do this for what you want, but simply running the RUU (after goldcard etc) should make your phone an unbranded, unlocked stock froyo.

I'm gonna ask this question on xda, for my own curiosity...

thanku alrb, that makes sense, puts things in a better perspective i think...so if i do root i should make a goldcard first and where shall i get a RUU from, is it the RUUs that are of different types, custom RUUs and stuff.....i think i should just go with the original initially and then work my way up, could u help me in doing this or point me to a tutorial....i definately need to root it as i hate the logo, so if i have the original RUU stock one, could i still flash custom roms onto it...sorry if i still havent got the plot....really appreciate you helpin...

Best place for rooting etc is xda developers.
Full of useful info, guides, & of course the roms, radios etc.
    HTC Desire HD - xda-developers

Have a look through some of the recent threads on this forum too, i've put numerous links to guides etc on some of them. (most links to xda)
Reading through these will also put you in good stead as most the stuff you're probably wondering has probably already been asked.

I don't like to advise people on things i haven't actually done myself, & i have no real experience of the goldcard thing, although i know why it's needed & how to go about it; my phone came unlocked & unbranded from new.
Again, best to read up, but it's one of the first things you need to do.
This link is a good start: [GUIDE] How to downgrade 1.7x/1.8x/2.x to 1.32.405.6 - xda-developers
Even if you don't need to downgrade, there are some useful links on this thread.

The RUUs can also be found on xda. RUUs will return your phone like it came. It's the custom roms that give you gingerbread, remove sense ui etc.

Use the radio tool to remove/apply sim lock.

hey arlrb, just made my goldcard following a few tutorials on here, was actually quite simple but im stuck, i dont know what to do next, all these tutorials presume some stuff that frankly i dont understand, i dont even know why i made a goldcard, presumingly to revert back to my original ruu if something goes wrong right....but anyways ive made it but what shall i do now, i dont need to downgrade it cuz my software version is 1.37...now if i go to the root step, theres millions out there, temp root, perm root....someone talking about CID...what are CID lol...but basically if i do grab one they talk about transferring files to your sd card, i dont know which sd card this is, is this the goldcard i transfer too or shall i keep the goldcard safe, or is it this card thats permanently inside your phone all the time....its only 2gb but i want to use an 8gb one, do i have to convert an 8gb card into a goldcard again in order to use it...

i just dont know whether to use goldcard or just a normal sd card to download apps too when a tutorial picks up...it starts with download visionary, then put zip file to your phones sd card...which sd card...

Arlrb, i dont know where to start now, im trying too get a stock RUU on my phone without the 3 logo....so far i have a gold card...also my phones is locked, the only way to unlock it is using a code i gather or is there another way via softwares an all...sorry for all this but it would be greatly appreciated if you help once more lol

    http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-...noob-can-anyone-help-me-wit-my-questions.html

This thread is where i began, suroot's explanations i found easy to understand & answered most of my what is/what if.

Post #8 contains a youtube video of the whole process, part 1 is downgrading, which you don't need to do, so start at part 2. - actually, start with part 1 as I think there is some useful info here too.
I'd definitely watch this first, picture paints a thousand words & all that.

Suroot has also given a link for ruu downloads in his Q&A. (although the newest version here is 1.72, yet i know the latest version is 1.84 - it'll be somewhere, have a search)

As far as i can make out, the sd card with your goldcard needs to be in the phone when you do the ruu.
& before doing that you need to do radio s-off ([TOOL][VIDEO] One click Radio S-OFF, SimUnlock (Easy Root & S-OFF Guide) - xda-developers), which is shown in the youtube video too.

So, the radio tool will unlock the sim & the ruu will give you an unbranded android.

hey arlrb, im all done nearly thanks to u, ive rooted my phone, i have radio soff etc, unlocked and stuff, but the phone is still branded so im going to apply this

    1.32.405.6
    http://zantekk.de/~desire_hd/officia...891_signed.exe

i got this off the xda site, my phones branded to 3 and the soft ver is 1.37 but i couldnt find the same so im going to go with this one for the time, although im definately going to make a backup of the branded rom just to be on the safe side and save it on my comp....hope im doing everything right so far, dont want to brick it, so a whole purpose of the gold card is to debrand the phone using it and too brand it again if the phone needs to go for repair....also could u explain something, there some custom roms on xda, could i now download any of them to test them out, or am i suppose to look out for something, how can i unroot this, if i was to go all the way back to original...without the superuser permissions....wouldnt i be able to do that if i just install the 1.75 stock RUU, would Clockwork still be active in the applications section or would i have to downgrade it again....

oh and would i be able to custom this in the future if i have everfelt like it,

    Hey billy
Don't worry, this rom is just based on the official htc rom, it'll be rooted & have su permissions.

Keep the 1.32 ruu you have, this will allow you to get back to normal if need be (see 2nd link in post #9)

You can basically use any rom you choose from xda (for dhd). The first couple i tried i didn't think much of, i've been running cyanogen mod 7 (gingerbread - 2.3) for about a month & like it so i'll stay with this for a while (has bluetooth drivers which i need too, & i love the new minimalistic look).
