What are everyone's thoughts after using the phone for a bit? Any issues using the phone on ATT's 3g bands? Camera quality? battery life? Anyone using custom roms? There doesn't seem to be much interest in the hacking community for the xt701.

Thanks

i've had the phone for a month now, no issues so far, running on 2.1 update 1, everything runs fine. camera quality is good, but i dont like the shutter lag sometimes. battery life is ok too.

i've been looking a lot into rooting it and running a custom rom, might do it soon.

It has some great reviews on newegg.com

I actually am sorta considering one myself, if I could go in and block all data usage except over wifi (no desire to pay for a data plan).

Although I'm also considerig nokia x6 for the plain fact it is cheaper x.x

The phone works great on AT&T (5 months going strong). 3G, GPS, etc. flawless.

You might have issues with MMS, erasing/reentering the APN settings a couple of times cleared it for me.

Root your phone with Universal Androot (if you need to install something like AdFree), otherwise, I haven't found a custom ROM for this phone nor will installing SetCPU (to increase CPU speed) really work (CPU is already maxed out at 550MHz)... knowing this, I haven't found out why I rooted the phone (maybe it was 'just because I could?).

I will say this. Get a screen protector. Something (One tiny **&^*^&( drop of water / humidity / ??? / solar flare ?) causes these touchscreens to go apesh*+, crazy, with random key presses. Its been seen in the Droid community, and being from that same family, the xt701 has the same *)($ issue. Normally, the droid users do a warranty replacement. Being the XT701 is a Asian/Euro phone, Motorola doesn't really honor the warranty here in the good ol USA. I hope you've got better luck with warranty issues. Buy a SquareTrade Warranty or something - you'll want it around when/if this happens.

SGP Case is the BEST case for the phone - use eBay to look (its the same SGP case as the XT720). Worth the $30-$50.
