For a tablet under $150, staying clear of those dirt cheap, off-brand trash tablets, I'd look into an Amazon Fire: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-android-tablet/
Having played around with one recently the FireOS provides your typical touchscreen-focused mobile device user interface and when you dig into the Settings menu the Android underpinnings are quite similar (including a Developer options menu).
Thanks, svim! I appreciate the response.
Unfortunately, I couldn't help myself and ordered this from Amazon, along with a $60 Amazon credit. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08R7K9F5X/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_5P0YG738SZWQARJ4J0Q7
