so I just went to the Motorola Moto care site and tried getting the unlock bootloader code for my Sprint Moto x 1st gen running 5.1.1. Motorola says i am not eligible for unlock. i tried rooting my phone yesterday with Kingo pc version and it worked till i rebooted and then i lost root access, i was told this happened because my bootloader is locked. i really want to root this phone. it's my favorite and the warranty is expired anyway so i may as well. is there a known way to achieve what i want without the code from Motorola? thanks in advance

I downloaded the kingroot app from https://androidmtk.com/ and found this statement on their site. "it will not work on the devices having locked bootloader, and if in case you do want to use then you must unlock thebootloader first."

    Back to the drawing board

I'm giving up.all my research leads me to believe it's not currently possible. I'm just going to buy one that's already unlocked. Thanks

Honestly, try it from the Kingroot website. I tried it on a Moto G and E with no bootloader unlocked

Even if you get it rooted, with a locked bootloader the choices are limited.

What's your model number? Are you sure you put the code in correctly?

I am using the XT1058. and yes I followed the instructions implicitly twice. 6 hours of research has yeilded the answer that it is not currently possible. there are rumors that a guy in china did it but he's not talking. So I am just gonna buy an unlocked moto x on payday. it's only $100

The XT1058 comes back as the AT&T model. Which you're correct would not be supported by the normal methods. Sunshine app by Jcase and team might work. It' free to run the app and it will let you know if it'll work. If it'll work then it'll charge $25

maybe its not the XT1058 then because mine is a US Sprint phone. I'm only guessing at the model because all it says for model # in the about phone section is moto x nothing else. i purchased it around 2013 or 2014.

it's the XT1056. I just found a thread on another site that says sprint's model is the 1056.

The 1056 the last i knew was a supported device for the bootloader unlock. Things may have changed as it's been quite awhile since i have worked with a Moto X.... If you want you can send me the output from fastboot oem get_unlock_data via P.M. or whatever way you feel comfortable and i can run the code from my end.

naa don't worry about it. thanks though. I'm just going to buy an unlocked XT1058 this payday. it will work on my carrier (my 1056 won't), it's got 16gb memory which is more than my current 12gb and it's only a hundred dollars. i needed to upgrade my existing carrier phone anyway.
