This will uncap it to a full 60fps or just past 30? Pretty interesting how a "hardware limitation" suddly got worked around!

I don't think out will be 60 but certainly more than 30. I'm glad to see they are going to fix the edit issue in the calendar too

I've never had any problem with anything appearing to have low fps.. what exactly is this supposed to help? Just games?

Its cool, i'm pretty sure about this. FPS is frames per second. What this is how smooth the screen scrolls in web browsing and screen swiping and things like that. Also, it may affect video playback and game playback. Right now it is capped at 30 fps. Most smartphones have a max of 60fps and run around 50fps where the evo doesn't. Now while not always noticeable, when compared to an "uncapped" device there is noticeable lag. A great example of this is when the evo is run against the older hero. The hero slightly out performs it in scrolling speed.

Now, there are some kernels out there that "uncap" the fps lock, but an official release would probably be a bit smoother. 1 reason this was such a big deal is because HTC claimed that this couldn't be fixed because of the HDMI out port and that human eyes could only see 28fps anyway. This would be ok if life ran in 28fps but it doesn't and as such the lag was noticeable. Hopefully this will fix this problem IF its even true. Tomorrow will tell.

I was going to forsake htc after the evo due to me starting to hate Sprint and minor quality issues with the EVO. However I've never seen or heard of the support that HTC has given this phone. This would be the third significant-major update on this phone in as many months as its been out. And with new sense (which I love) on the way HTC is top tierin my book. Though if the new desire is an EVO minus 4g I may switch back to T-Mobile.

    HTC ftw.

I really do hope this is true. I really don't have the time to go through the steps of rooting and making sure I do it right, so an official update would take care of the one remaining problem I have with the phone!

This shows the slight difference in scrolling. The fps brin being fixed will make it as smooth as the hero. I am rooted with a custom kernel so I don't have this problem but it would be good to see htc address it.

Probably another update that has 10 other things packed in with it that aren't listed...one of which would be closing the Root exploit!

Let's just hope I can get this one OTA instead of having to take my phone in to the nearest repair station like I did to get 2.2.

I don't think that's true since Unrevoked only takes about 3 (maybe 5) minutes, but I can understand not wanting to do it. Unrevoked is simple enough that anyone who can read can do it.

Hrmph. What'll it help? To quiet down certain EVO users who swear this thing's useless w/o > 30fps, if you ask me.

Pretty cool. Maybe I'll flash this once they have a rooted ROM available and give it a whirl.

Thanks for that info. I'm sure a little later down the line, prior to going to another device, I'll use the EVO to learn. Right now, I just don't have time to refresh should I make a mistake or need to revert to stock because of any issues. All of that is time consuming.

I had a very modified WinMO phone when I had my Touch Pro, but after all the hours I spent customizing, I realized it was a lot of wasted time that I needed for work purposes.
