If you are getting signal drops (not everyone is, but many are) this is a very real issue that sprint has finally acknowledged exists.

The current status is: Sprint and samsung are aware of issue. Rumor is fix release coming October 19 I have no confirmation of this, if anyone can confirm please post here.

10/10: The Fix suggested in post #37 did not help my reception issue for ME. Others with more LOS issues may benefit from it, however. Following the steps only took 5 minutes but did not solve the issue for me.

10/6: User in post #203 mentioned the following:

10/4: Still no fix yet. Yesterday (10/3) I had 2+ hours of my phone sending callers straight to voicemail and texts not received! I called sprint and they just told me to wait for the software fix.

    Please read the following thread:

Sprint Community: Loss of Signal on Samsung Epic 4G Touch

    Sprint employee Shane_M says:
    He continues with:
Another user who has contacted sprint said:

Making this a sticky would probably be helpful as i'll update this post when/if it gets fixed

I'll never understand how anyone would put up with that answer. If my phone suddenly stopped working, you better believe they're going to replace it with one that does - whether it's a new Epic or not. If Sprint stood firm, I'd sell the phone, go to a different carrier, and they can chase me for the ETF.

According to the rep I spoke with last night, there's a software update/fix pending, called MR1. There isn't a release date for it, but it's coming.

This info may suck but it is true. I personally (and LOTS of others) experienced had this SAME EXACT PROBLEM with the Nexus S 4G. Sprint reps never told me the same story after many, many calls and it took months before the software update fix (GRJ90) was released. When it did release it did NOT fix the problem at all and it was actually a Trojan horse that killed the free/unlimited wifi hotspot and tether the Nexus S is originally built with. If you don't believe me go to the Nexus S 4G forum and find the old posts yourself. Samsung does many things right with their cell phones (displays, processors, battery life, weight) but radio hardware and radio driver software seems to be a BIG problem for them which totally sucks because unless you live on top of a Sprint cell tower it makes your device the worlds fanciest mp3 player. I don't believe a software update will fix anything unfortunately...

The following is what i've experienced with my own Epic 4g touch when compared to an evo 4g. This is taken from thread mentioned in first post, on page 12:

Was in Walmart today, where my EVO worked flawlessly with data, and the TOUCH was basically non-existent with data.......frustrating!

    I love the phone....but maaan....very furstrating!

That's one of the same place I have the issue. My Evo Shift worked perfectly in Walmart (and other stores), but the Touch roams like a cow.

Yep I caught the virus also didn't even notice for about a half hour car ride on the same express wayI use all the time! Not kool I missed a few calls & text mesgs. I tried turning the 3g radio on/off but was unable to regain service without a reboot. Signal was dead to the world! Funny thing is the 4G radio was active & responsive! Not so funny part was my batt. Drained about 7% during this fiasco....

Got my first loss of signal today. I purchased mine from Radio Shack on Sept 16 and my receipt says returns until Oct 16.

If I return by Oct 16 to Radio Shack do I still get hit with Termination fee from Sprint because of their 14 day return policy?

Radioshack just hasn't updated their receipt policies. THe new 14 day returns only went into effect on 9/9 so maybe radioshack wasn't on the ball about it.

I'm pretty sure radioshack will not take your phone back, period, after the 14 days. If you try though, post your results. I'm really curious

This is an interesting legal dilemma, and one I thought would occur because of the lack of notice given by Sprint.

Radio Shack is bound by their receipt and for this reason, Radio Shack is not an issue. However, Sprint will be the one to enforce the 14 day limit so far as their decision to waive the early termination fee (ETF). This will depend upon at what time Sprint provided YOU notice of their ETF waiver being 30 days or 14 days. Sprint cannot simply retroactively apply their ETF. They are bound by what you were told at the time of purchase.

In other words, the contract you were provided by Sprint either stated 14 days or 30 days for the ETF waiver. That will be what you are stuck with.

After rooting my own device, it happened....once I flashed the stock kernel back and then the stock rom with pre-root, everything has been fine and I have NEVER....EVER....EEV EV EV EV EV EV EV EVER lost signal again lol

I am within 30 days of my Radio Shack purchase and awaiting them to get in new stock and exchange.

Hopefully new one will be better as not many people are having this issue I was told.

Note that CA folks still allowed 30 day via state law.

MN is also still at the 30 day return period. It will change to 14 days in November.

My phone is still bone stock (except for about 10 apps), and I still have problems with LOS, Data Lockups, and overall low signal.

In general the Epic Touch has more signal problems than my Moment that I was using until last week. I routinely have to toggle 4G on/off to get 3G data to connect.

Yeah despite what the supposed sprint tech said, this is not related to root. I had my issues before I rooted my phone, and it continues after. I have no modified kernel, just root.
