Lost my data connection since software upgrading

I am on the vodafone network and last night I done the upgrade on my HTC desire but since then when I am outwith wifi range I get no data connection and cant connect to the internet, I don't even have the arrows the H or G on my screen. This is only since I done the upgrade which popped up on my phone yesterday.

My status info are as follows

Android Version 2.2.2
Software number 2.29.405.14
Mobile network type HSDPA
My mobile network is switched on to use phone for data connection when wifi is unavailable
Mobile network settings Network mode is GSM/WCDMA auto

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this and is it an HTC fault or vodafone

My phone used to do that (on orange)
Bugged the crap out of me.
I usually fixed it by checking the APNs, keeping wifi off and trying things like Airplane mode on/off.
I don't know what the cause is but I feel for ya.
