Lost my Incredible, no insurance, no early upgrade

Will skip the sob story of losing it, but I have put a LOT of money and time into this phone. I bought a case, the Seidio extended battery, screen protectors, etc. Absolutely loved the damn thing

I had no insurance, so I can't get a replacement or refurbished phone from Verizon. Unfortunately my line is elgible for an "early upgrade" (new contract price) in May, while my dad's discounted upgrade will be in April (I apparently could steal his upgrade).

They said I could get a Certified Pre-owned Device, but the Incredible (as it's discontinued) is not an option, or at least won't be until December-ish.

So I lost it, and I'm pretty devastated. I'm wondering for your suggestions on what I should do. As far as now, I think my options are this:

    1) Buy a good condition, clean ESN, used phone off of Ebay for about $200-300.

    2) Wait until mid-late November, and spend $500ish on one of the new Droids that are apparently supposed to drop (possibly the HTC Incredible HD or HTC Mege).

    3) Wait until Q1 of 2011, when LTE phones will appear. I live in Minneapolis and we are getting Verizon's LTE network here by the end of 2010, and either

    a) buy a new LTE phone without a contract
b)wait until April/May when I could get the "contract" price for an LTE phone.

and more importantly, is LTE even worth the wait, as we see it now?

If anyone else has any suggestions on what I should do, or any other options I've failed to consider, it would be greatly appreciated!

You "should" be able to talk them into getting you the upgrade price. Try variations of: I need a phone, I can go to sprint/tmobile/att, they offered to credit the ETF, but I've been very happy with my Verizon service. Can you do ANYTHING to help me keep it?

I wouldn't suggest getting a new phone at sticker price, probably smarter to buy a used Incredible (or whatever), and if you want an LTE phone sell the Incredible after one you like comes out AND you get them to let you upgrade (they will be much more likely to bump your update up a 3 months than 7, for example).

I tried to do this in store and had no luck. Would you suggest maybe doing it over the phone or trying out different stores?

I was in a VZW store and the manager said that as of last week, they would not be receiving any more Droid Incredibles as it was being "retired" (sorry, I said discontinued). She mentioned that they are pushing the X. Not sure as to how legit the information is, but this was the most direct thing I've ever heard about the issue.

lmao! the incredible is not going anywhere. love the lies people spread!

Yes. Also, one of the rumors floating around is that they're going to stop carrying the Incredible in stores (but still carry it online).

I really doubt they'd have rolled out SLCD incredibles if they were planning on retiring it any time soon.

And it's very possible he's just out of Incredibles, and wants to push the phones he DOES have.

My recommendation (and this goes for everyone) is when LTE comes out, if they have an unlimited plan, sign up ASAP since (In my estimation) it won't be long-lived. That way you'll be grandfathered in and won't have to worry about tiered pricing down the line.

Not necessarily...they could force you to go tiered later on (as long as they give you an out of your contract). And they probably will force you to go tiered next time you upgrade. (anyways, if they're planning on going to tiered data for LTE, why would they give you the chance to get an unlimited LTE contract?)

I can't watch a football game without seeing a commercial for the Inc, so I don't think it's being "discontinued" this soon. Can't believe everything a VZW employee tells you. They don't know much.

They would offer unlimited for a short time to basically lure people to upgrade and build hype about LTE.

Then they would switch to tiered, so the people that still want it would have to adjust their usage, or pay more, w/e. And contract law states that when there is a renewal clause in the contract (which every cell phone contract has besides pre-pay phones), the carrier cannot force you to switch to a new contract unless one party has breached contract or both parties agree to switch to the new contract.

This is the same reason why people that got the iPad on AT&T can still have unlimited, while those that waited have to go with tiered.

You "agree" to the new contract by not canceling your contract in the window they give you to cancel without the ETF.

Would everyone else also just recommend trying out different Verizon stores to find a compassionate manager?

yeah that would be something you can certainly try

Call customer service. See what they can do. Ask them if Incredible is discontinued. If no, tell them you love Verizon and that you were told Incredible was discontinued. Tell them you were upset that their store would lie to you to sell you a more expensive phone. Ask them if that is how Verizon treats their customers.

Then, tell them you just want to stay with Verizon. They should have a ton of certified like news... see what you can get one for.

Be courteous, do not accuse them directly of fraud, and do not threaten to leave.

If that doesnt work ask for a manager.

Try it all again with manager.

If that doesnt work, send me a message here. I have the email (I actually will have to find it) of a guy at Verizon who helped me out. He might be able to help you too.

I say buy a used Droid Eris to hold you over until you can upgrade.

I'm 99.9% sure I'm upgrading to a Inc tomorrow (Best Buy Free Phone Friday :D) and would be willing to sell you my Eris. It's in mint condition, no scratches or blemishes. It's rooted running xtrSENSE 4.2. I have a nandroid of OTA 2.1 I can flash to go back to stock if neccessary. I also have 2 screen protectors and a soft and hard case I'll throw in. PM me if you're (or anyone else is) interested. If you're not interested, no worries. Sorry you lost your phone and good luck whichever way you decide to go. I know I'd feel naked if I lost my phone.

Not a bad idea. It probably won't even cost you much, since it will be worth almost as much in 3-6 months as it is now. So when you sell it to buy the new phone, you'll get almost all your money back.

According to HTC, end of life for the original Inc is next March (2011). I guess that doesn't mean that on 11/23 when the new Inc HD comes out, that VZW will stop pushing the current version though.

The only thing I heard (from multiple people) is that the Eris is not even comparable to the Eris in any way or form. But...I definitely see what you mean. I think I'm going to try to call customer service today, maybe stop in another Verizon store, and if all else fails, maybe I'll go that route.

Also, thanks for all of you who have posted in this thread so far. You guys have been very helpful!

Sidetrack question: Is the Incredible HD confirmed for 11/23? Or is that just a rumor (is the phone just a rumor? lol)?
