Today, no one could hear me on my phone, until I did a factory/data reset.

Apparently, there's some conflict between one or some of my restored apps and .605. I am going to try it again. If I continue to have trouble, I'm going back to .602.

Never did. I was on windows mobile in those days. I have never had this problem before .605. As I said, before, I'm all restored. If I have it again, back to .602 I go.

i bet you will have it again, just seems apparent they fix one thing, and break another :p

besides when have you ever known moto to get it right with 1 update?

Did you hear that erisuser1 actually figured-out what the issue was with this and figured-out a fix?

Turns out the rild (radio interface layer daemon) was trying to open a log file (I think that's right) without first testing that it really existed. This caused a kernel panic and the "silent call" issue.

The fix? Dead simple: create the file that the rild was trying to open. Easy-peasy, and brilliant, obsessive, detective work by eu1.

HTC and VZW should have paid and thanked him.

    Cheers!

Steven's always downplaying how much he knows...we all know how bright and knowledgeable he actually is. We kid him 'cause he's our friend :).

I still "experiment" with my Eris and have done all kinds of cool stuff to and with it (unpacking / modifying / repacking boot images; modifying / recompiling Amon_RA custom recovery to not rely on the trackball; flashing all kinds of ROMs and update.zip files, etc....tons of fun!).

Can't wait for my next phone so I can "start" to play with my DX ;) (I don't like to play too much with my day-to-day phone).

    Cheers!

edit: by the way, for those interested, here's eu1's (XDA's bftb0) thread re. the silent / undead call bug fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956091
