That means you have too many apps installed. Go to settings and click on SD card and phone storage, at the bottom is your internal memory. You need to start uninstalling apps until you free up space, when you get that message you can also start missing phone calls and notifications.

Well I figured it was browser cache simply because it would take an obscene amount of texts to put that big of a dent in your memory. And if you do have that many texts it will probably freeze the phone when you try to delete them.

The best thing to do is go into settings->applications->manage applications and sort them by size.

Even with only about 200 texts com.android.providers.telephony shows up as the 4th largest for me. My largest app by size is actually com.htc.socialnetwork so having a lot of facebook contacts linked must also use a lot of memory (Not sure if it matters but I'm still on 1.5)

I have about 25 market apps downloaded but my available internal memory is still 62 MB

To clear the cache and history:

    While in the browser app.
menu > More > Settings > scroll down to Clear Cache and then Clear History.

    Good Luck!

Best thing to do is this: settings, applications, manage applications, wait for it to load up fully then press menu key, select sort by size or whatever, at this point all apps will be in order of total size from the top down. Anything taking up a horrendous amount of memory should be blatantly obvious at this point, such as browser being at the very top with like 40 mb worth of useless cache. Scroll through and clean out all your cache, NOT DATA OR DEFAULTS, JUST CACHE.

Are there other caches that should be cleared regularly other than the browsers?

Is there an easy app that clears caches for multiple programs with the touch of a button (or even on a schedule)?

thanks -- I actually feel a little silly now, for some reason wasn't thinking to do this through the browser, and was looking in the general phone settings. Doh!

I use ks uninstaller for clearing most cache though it can only do 3rd party apps. I go through the manage applications menu and essentially clear out all cache at least once a week.

i thought that 2.1 would give us the ability to clear all the app cache at one time, instead of having to clear out each individual app? is that only with root? or is it something that the magical and unavailable 2.2 will have?

Yeah there are apps for rooted phones that'll clear all cache at once, no idea whether that'll be in froyo or not.

I'm showing over 10mb for contact storage. It's my #1 space user.
    That normal?
I think it's time to start using Apps2sd.

If your memory is that low you should follow these steps as well as you have a problem.

Do you have a lot of bigass apps like games or something? I currently have 86.7mb free and I have 20 apps from the market including a couple of bigger apps like games, the Xda keyboard etc etc...
