    Hello,

I rooted my HTC one M8, but i wanted to have the software reset to how it came out of the factory without root so i sent it in for repair. This was going to cost 50 euro, even thought its only one month old i had no problems with that.

Now the repair company claims rooting broke the mainboard and they need to replace it for +/- 220 euro. After i told them it is impossible since i brought it in working, they now say the mainboard is locked due to rooting and needs to be replaced. I am under the impression this is not possible but i am not 100% sure. Is it possible rooting locked my mainboard? And can that only be unlocked by replacing it (so not possible at all with the old mainboard)?

    Thank you

What do you mean by mainboard?

I can't imagine that rooting it would lock anything.

Who have you sent it to?

I've sent off a few phones that were all rooted and even had custom ROM's on them and never had this issue before.

    Sounds dodgy to me.

Thank you for your reply. They say the mainboard is locked due to rooting and it cannot be fixed and need replacement. I assume they mean this part.. i dont see how it can be locked though and neither can you.. anyone else with some inside?

btw, it was sent to teleplan, one of HTC repair services..

That's the motherboard. I'm no specialist in rooting or even repairing but I imagine that rooting shouldn't cause direct harm to the motherboard esp since rooting is a reversible process.

Like Gibbs said, it reeks of dodgyness to me.
