    Hi Guys,

*I have 8 inch 16GB SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A and its model is SM-T350. It has Android 6.0.1 version.

I copied an editable MICROSOFT WORD 2007 file from laptop and pasted it on the above Tab which has 16.0.7030.1017 WORD version. But the file became READ- ONLY. So, I can’t edit the file. What I should do to make it editable and what is the way to avoid such problem furthermore?

*How to log out the Gmail Account?

Firstly, what app are you using to read the word file? Is the capable of editing, or is it just a viewer?

Secondly, where on the device did you store the file? On many recent Android versions non-system apps cannot by default write to SD (real SD, not internal storage), and if your office app isn't written to request write permission you would not be able to edit a file on the removable SD card. In this case, try moving the word file to internal storage and see if you can edit it then.

Otherwise, what are the file permissions (use any decent file manager, select the file and look at "details" or "properties")? It may be that when you copied the file over it was set as being owned by something other than your user account. Making a copy and editing that may be the simplest solution in that case.

Logging in/out of a Gmail account is for when you're using the webmail interface with a web browser. With an email app it's a different scenario as you're manually defeating it general purpose to always be connected -- you can disable the email app's access to your online account by turning off WiFi and mobile data on your phone (more of a drastic measure), or by turning off syncing in your phone's Settings >> Accounts, or by turning off polling in your email app's settings.

    Hi Guys,

I copied an editable MICROSOFT WORD 2007 file, saved as WORD 97-2003 DOCUMENT, from laptop and pasted it in the internal storage of the Android Tab which has 16.0.7030.1017 WORD version. It says that “your device might not be able play or view this file.

I can see the copied file on the document of the Tab through DEVICES WITH REMOVABLE STORAGE ON WINDOWS7, but I cannot view the same file in the word document of the Tab.

What is the problem actually and what is the solution to it?

Which file manager are you using to view this file? (as in the file itself inside whatever directory it's located). Or are you trying to view the file through a menu in the Word app?

I don't know about file manager and I don't know about the location of the file itself in a particular directory. But I view the file through Word app itself in the menu.

    Hi Guys,

I have 8 inch 16GB SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A and its model is SM-T350. It has Android 6.0.1 version.

This is for your kind information that when I connect the above Tab to Windows7 laptop, it says automatically that “An MTP connection will be established to access the data on the connected device.

    DENY ALLOW

    I clicked ALLOW.

After that I did as follows:

I copied an editable MICROSOFT WORD 2007 file, saved as WORD 97-2003 DOCUMENT, from laptop and pasted it in the internal storage of the Android Tab which has 16.0.7030.1017 WORD version. It says that “your device might not be able play or view this file.

Have you been able to open/edit/save other Word .doc files and the problem is just this one file you're referring to? Have you tried opening this one file using Google Docs or some other Word capable app?

If this is the first time you've used that Word app on your Tab and it's not working properly to open other files too try reinstalling it. Go into your Settings >> Application manager, find the Word app, tap the 'Force stop' button, then the 'Clear data' button (which will wipe the settings and cache), and then the 'Uninstall' button. Now go back to Google Play, install the Word app again, and see it this makes any difference.

You might also want to install a file manager, although I'm guessing Samsung has added one to your Tab already. Anyway, 'File Expert' is a feature-rich, third-party file manager that will be more functional than the default one.

Open up the File Expert app, navigate to wherever that file is located, and tap on it. If a popup message asks you what app to use, select the MS Word app so it is confirmed to be the default for .doc files in your Tab's file associations.

    Hi Guys,

The problem solved. I explain here how the problem solved. Because it will be useful to others too.

I copied an editable MICROSOFT WORD 2007 file from laptop and pasted it in the internal storage of the Android Tab which has 16.0.7030.1017 WORD version.

When I attempt to do so ,it asks that “your device might not be able play or view this file. But I clicked YES.

And the saved file was in the document in the My Files menu. It was in READ-ONLY file and I opened it and saved it again with different file name and finally it became an editable one. The problem solved.

But I think there may be some other way to copy an editable file directly as an editable one as default without doing the above-mentioned steps.

But I don't know about it.

    Anyhow, my problem solved.

.doc is a Microsoft file extension. Android is not Microsoft. It's Android.:)
PDF is a little more Universal.

One or the other is still a proprietary file format, .doc files are the native file format for Microsoft Word and .pdf is the native file format for Adobe Acrobat. All files in both formats are proprietary and owned by those two corporate heavyweights respectively so there will always be licensing issues involved. Any program or app that can read/edit/write .doc and .pdf files must be in compliance with restrictions set by either Microsoft or Adobe, or, as a lot of Open Source projects must do, skirt around the closed source restrictions by creating compatible files that usually are equal, but occasionally not, to their counterparts.

Open Document formats on the other hand, are truly universal. Any licensing is based on open standards, with the resulting files being fully accessible by either open or closed source programs and apps.

Unfortunately most people have convinced themselves it's better to have companies like Microsoft maintain control over such things even now.

I connected the Tap with its USB cable to my Windows7 Laptop. I copy and paste a word file from the above Tab to my laptop, I cannot do so. But when I tried several times, it did only once.

So, I opened the word file from the documents (after connecting as mentioned above) and pasted it on my laptop through SAVE AS option. It copied, but it opened and showed two pages side by side continuously in a single window instead of one page. How to change two pages into a single page continuously in a single window, I mean, the whole document?
