Maps/Navigation Don't Remember they have been run

I'm on Froyo FRF57. Every time I start Maps, I get the "What's new in maps" screen. When starting navigation, it doesn't remember my recent addresses. I have tried clearing the application data, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled maps, but the problem persists. Any suggestions?

Clean Black Froyo here. I don't have that problem. What did you use to install froyo?

Not sure it's root related (though I realize the present connection between root and Froyo discussion). I think I have fixed it. I removed the Maps apk (which showed up in but data/apps and system/apps), then went into settings -> manage apps, and uninstalled Maps, which still showed there. After that I reinstalled from the market, and I'll know shortly if it works long term.
