I saw this was mentioned briefly in another thread but no real answer.

The Facebook App from the marketplace is newer (it has an message box without needing a browser, etc.).... and when you are about to download it, it mentiones it will replace the Facebook for HTC (not the Facebook widget...the whole thing).....

Has anyone attempted this? Does anything get screwed up?

I also didn't notice much of a change after installing this. The fact that Facebook notifications launch the website not the app make the integration with sense near worthless imo

So everyone is updating with the one from the marketplace? Is that the consensus? No real frack-ups on the phone?

I'm not syncing contacts - but I am syncing the info from it....so I can view friends photo albums in the photo viewer. Does that still work?

The apps installed in the core firmware can still be updated. If you go back to the Market, it actually says "Uninstall Updates" instead of "Uninstall".

Actually the message I'm getting when I click to Install it (which is the only option) is...and I quote:

    Replace Application
The application Facebook for Android 1.2 will replace the currently installed Facebook.
Existing user data will be saved.

And then just an OK or a Cancel.

The version numbers match up (I think)

    BUT

It has a section for your Messages (so you can get your Facebook mail). Not sure what else is different.

I don't want to install it if it fraks up the photo viewer
