Marshmallow (6.0) is rolling out on the Droid Turbo 2. It is in two parts ...

    23.31.24 - OTA Update - 2016.03.08 (1 of 2)
    24.14.11 - OTA Update - 2016.03.08
    (2 of 2)

... and takes a while to downbload and install.
It should be noted that 24.14.11 is a 1.2GB download.

    The summary at
    http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/motorola-droid-turbo-2-update/
    shows the new capabilities.

    Do you have questions?
    Do you have observations?
    Do you have suggestions?

    (1) The name of the external SD card has been sdcard1 for years and years. It is now a unique number like 6337-3536. The apps that you had in the past (like file managers) that pointed to /sdcard1/something will now have to be revised. There no longer is an sdcard1.

    (2) When connected by a USB cable to Windows 7 ... some of the files on the SD Ext card on the Turbo 2 will not be seen from the Windows 7 Computer display. I am still investigating this one. The files do seem to show up eventually.

    (3) You can configure the SD card to be an extension of internal storage. If you do so you will not be able to remove the card. It should also be noted that access will be much slower from the SD card then it is from true internal memory.

In the past if I was working on something lengthy I would use Tasker to change the screen timeout form 1 min to 1 hr.

I started using the new Attentive Display and find it to be very handy. Timeout set at 1 min, If I am looking at the screen it stays on. When I stop looking at the screen it times out in about 20-25 sec.

On my Tylt charger pointing at me on my desktop ... it stays on while charging because it sees me. If I leave my workstation the screen dims.

    In the Moto app
Tap stars icon in upper right
    Tap action
    Tap attentive Display

Why should I "upgrade" to 6.0? I use my phone as a phone, text and my work laptop's hot spot on the go. Nothing else. Whats the benefit? Think I should wait for root capability?
(My last phone was the original Galaxy Nexus, rooted)

... and another that they don't list ... it will start "reminding" you that it is available until you are very tired of seeing it. The only way to stop that is to be root-ed and if the Turbo is an example for the Turbo 2 you have a pretty long wait in store for that.

    Hey, thanks!
Yeah, I saw the list of stuff, nothing there thats a game changer for me. If it wasn't for the hotspot, I wouldn't even have a smart phone. As for it bugging me, I'll wait it out.

The monthly security updates should be reason enough.

There are many anecdotal reports (though no official word) that Verizon and Motorola have stopped pushing the Marshmallow update to devices without it for an unspecified reason. Your experience bears that out.

If you really want the update, you can get it using the Verizon Software Update Assistant. That app runs on Windows and Mac computer through a USB cable. One caveat is that you have to use a USB2 port on a Windows computer - it will not work on a USB3 port. Another caveat is that if you used Motomaker to create a custom greeting on the phone, you will lose the custom greeting, with no way to get it back.

Two threads on the Motorola website repeat this. Windows 7 and not Windows 10 was also mentioned.

Information on just about everything from Motorola related to the Turbo 2 seems to lag greatly.

I have found not description anywhere of what changes were made by this OTA.

Did you upgrade from 5.1.1 or 6.0?

This might be premature, but has anyone heard any chatter of when we might see 6.0.1? Apparently 6.0 has a small flaw in the Bluetooth implementation that prevents Toyota's Entune system from being able to read the contact name for text messages (I know, it's weird, but I've found a bunch of other Toyota owners that said everything worked fine until their phone upgraded to 6.0 and then the car stopped displaying contact names). However, apparently this is corrected in 6.0.1.

    Nothing heard about 6.0.1.

Did you try the newly released 6.0 OTA to see if perhaps it was addressed?

I'm running the upgrade from 24.14.11 to 24.14.12 right now, so I'll try it on my way home tonight. However, the problem appears to impact all devices running 6.0 (not just Turbo 2s), so I'm not expecting it to be corrected until we actually move to the next incremental Android version

You may be correct that it does not help. It is a complicated structure with many players. Sometimes a vendor includes a correction in a device update before it is made generally available. The only thing you can do is try the latest release to see.

I have yet to find a statement of what changes were introduced by the latest Turbo 2 update.
