It should be possible to modify the update.zip so it doesn't try patching the recovery and to also push the su binary (aka, convert the OTA update.zip to a TWRP update.zip) things like the updater-script need to be modified

I have little experience with these things though so if we could please get a pro dev in here ;)

I'm starting to see too much flakiness in SD cards lately... after years of zero issues; in multiple Windows & Android.
In the simpler days OS'es, software & hardware had much less trouble recognizing, formatting, partitioning SD.
Now random errors and corruption pop up at random across different platforms no matter what sizes, softwares, hardwares and methods used.
The only bulletproof data protection seems to be redundant auto syncs to multiple clouds among different hardwares... truly unlimited data a must.
Plus frequent manual USB... OTG cannot get here to soon... to have it handy.

The day some nuke or solar flare messes our grid we'll all instantly become Neanderthals.

I tried this and was able to get only one update to come though and LG Bridge doesn't offer the update to me only the
MetroPCS latest version that would only revert me

No somethings need to be edited in the zip itself or else it'll fail, cause it's only for stock recovery and T-Mo version, so until someone edits whatever it is that needs to be edited in it ya know the rest now already.

No, It's an OTA zip. Not a Custom Recovery flash zip.

If the first update you received is 149.7mb this is just a patch not MM update.

It has few app updates (like Android Pay, Download App etc) and you still stay Lollipop OS.

MM update is slowly rolling out so, we may have to wait (including myself)

Those who aren't getting 149.7mb update 1) You must be connected to Wifi, 2) System time has to be between 11PM-4AM so turn of automatic time adjust (setting -> date & time -> uncheck Auto Time Adjust) and manually set time as 11:30 PM. Restart phone and go back to Settings -> General -> Update Center.

You should see phone is starting to download the update (again patch not MM OS).

    Edit)
It's been 4hrs + since I've updated TMobile ROM. I am still waiting for update.zip file.

So, for us metro pcs users,

    1. We would have to do the v10j stock restore and go completely back to stock. (Coming from katana)

    2. Get the 149.7 mb patch OTA.

    3. Wait for the Marshmallow update? (From Tmobile??? )

Just to clarify this is for a Metro phone and we would still be able to get the MM update from T-Mo? I'm not worried about root right now for MM, just want to get the stock MM.

Yes. That's how NullaVisus did. I did same as well still waiting MM update (700mb).

    @NullaVisus

    Did you install 10j ROM(.zip) or KDZ(.kdz)?

I don't think it makes difference but just want to make sure.

I believe you have to be on tmo's version of 10j. Not Metro's version.

So peeps, I have the WFM (Walmart Family Mobile) H631 and from what I can see its pretty much the same thing as what T-Mobile sells. Now when I got this last weekend, as soon as I hopped on my Wi-Fi it hit on that 147mb update file taking it to 5.1.1 H63110l

T-Mobile's site has a link to hit to download H63120b update via PC, but the link is dead (great support)..

Anyway, is the 'time changing' trick you have listed going to force MM for OTA or is just for that patch which I already have? For shits & giggles, I did what you had listed, and its been about 4 hours now and I haven't seen anything come through (eastern time).. for MM.. and you would think that an almost 800mb OTA they would turn the freakin option on to download via PC..

I also found this LG Bridge software, hoping it would pickup the MM update.. but sadly no.. states phone is up to date..

The v10L update was mostly to patch a bug regarding wifi-calling. While on v10J I would hear lots of breaking-up about every 10 seconds. You could almost set your watch to it.

But once you have v10L, then you just have to wait for MM (as you already know, of course). I've been on 10L and nothing yet. I'm gonna wait, though, until root is achievable.

Is anyone else using the WFM version of this device besides me? I'm also having an issue with Wi-Fi calling, I keep hitting on Error:ER05 'Invlalid SIM".. And yes, I'm using a WFM SIM card. My assumption is WFM does not support Wi-Fi calling even though its clearly written on the box..

This is my second card I've fried. The first was the all mighty SanDisk 32GB card. The latest was a Samsung EVO 64GB. Both of which were purchased from Amazon by Amazon, so they should not have been fakes. I know there are warranties, but I didn't want to deal with all of that. I figured now I'll just get a cheaper card, this time a simple 128GB card, also by Amazon (sold by Amazon).

But you're right. They seem so fragile these days. We can't be fooled into thinking these are plug and play, and unplug and play. ALWAYS right-click and eject/un-mount the card before unplugging or removing! You'd think a fix to this would be the next big thing in sd cards, a way to protect from random unplugging. All it takes is one bad USB cable....

I'm using the WFM version of the phone (which is the same as a Tmo version) as well, first on T-mobile and now on MetroPCS. I am not 100% sure WFM supports wifi-calling, even though I've heard it does. But the phone itself does indeed support wifi-calling. It's the same OS/firmware used on the phones sold by Tmo. As a matter of fact, Tmo takes care of all the updates as well.

Did your WFM version come with the NFC antenna on the back battery cover? Mind did not.. so I went back and they opened 5 more of what they had on the shelf and those didn't have them either. Its great to have NFC chip without being able to use it.

    Hey everyone

    Yeah, just for clarification.
1.) Flash Stock T-Mobile 10j KDZ file using LGFlash Tool (MetroPCS users should also flash T-Mobile KDZ!) Note. TWRP Flashable stock zips block OTA updates, so you must return to full stock for this, don't worry, rolling back should be painless ;)

2.) Keep bothering the LG OTA Updater in your phones settings until it gives you a 150MB update (if it says it wont start downloading until 11 PM, just manually set your clock and force it ;) ) if it says your phone is up to date, just click back, pace anxiously back and fourth for a minute or two, and go back to OTA updater

3.) Install the 150 MB update

4.) Repeat step 2 until it gives you Marshmallow!
This is how it worked for me anyhow

    For those wondering what the update.zip is for;
It is the actual OTA update file that is downloaded to your phone from the LG updater, this needs to be modified by one of our talented devs here before we can use it in a custom recovery like TWRP, but it shouldn't be much harder than tweaking the zip files updater-script

In the meantime, people on a T-Mobile stock ROM and the 150 MB update installed should try pushing the update.zip to the /cache directory and see if LG OTA updater sees it
