And I have read the other threads on here regarding this... but now after speaking to a Verizon rep... I'm even more unsure regarding this.

How often do you guys reboot your Note 2? And do you simply restart it or keep it shut off awhile, pull the battery... ?

My S3... I rebooted it sometimes- mostly when it acted goofy though.

Recently had a defective Note 2 swap out... the phone wasn't getting a signal from the network. The Verizon rep told me that I should have been rebooting the phone daily. I get it... I broke the phone by not rebooting it daily- LOL- but I'd never been advised to reboot daily in the past...
I asked him how long, battery pull, a simple restart... ??? and he wasn't real clear in his advisement.

So what IS the proper reboot protocol?

    Thanks!

    Anne

Amazing that a Verizon rep would say that, rebooting when the phone runs slow and sluggish ;)

LOL. I wish there was an option to press for tech support designed for those of us who don't need to "start from scratch".
After 20 minutes of, "Okay... Anne... may I call you Anne? Great... push the button next to your home button and a menu will pop up and you will see an option for settings... do you see that? Great. Go ahead and click that..."
LOL, I was just like "look, the phone is defective... I assure you... send the dreaded refurb please". LOL.

But was actually a second tech who gpt on the line to tell me about the importance of a daily reboot.

I go for weeks sometimes without rebooting. But sometimes I have to reboot a little more frequent. But I'm rooted and on the jedix14 rom so it might be different.

Sometimes it's good to reboot the system now and then. Or even completely shutting down and powering back on. There's really no harm in doing so as it also 'refreshes' the system.

Sometimes it's required with poorly coded apps leaking memory or what not.

No different than a computer powering down and back up again. Just make sure you save any work before hand. ;)

My sister had a cheap smart phone and email would quit working. The tech that helped her said she needed to do a battery pull every morning.... :D

Thanks for help. I didn't see harm either- can't hurt. Have to get myself into the habit of actually doing it now...

    Thanks!

    LMAO.
They can reboot their replacement system while they're at it. 10 week old insured phone replaced with the refurb. Been down that road many times with them in the past but it still doesn't seem fair, does it?

If it weren't for their great 4GLTE signal where I live I would have switched to my wife and kid's Sprint family account back when I got that stink bomb of a Droid 3 refurb.

Been lucky since... zero issues with this Tab 2 and my beloved Note 2. :)

Exactly why I keep them as well. Went through about 4 Droid Charge refurbs... but the signal where I live can't be beaten. Even living in the busy northeast corridor of the US, there are definitely areas where my family gets no signal & I do. However, recently in Maine & my niece was flapping away on her Sprint iPhone & I had nothing for miles.

Nice to be out of contract though- feel like options are out there if need be.

Ha- shopping for Tab 2- nice price drop with the Tab 3 so definitely gonna be picking on of them up now!! :D

"..The Verizon rep told me that I should have been rebooting the phone daily...."
I always do it when my mom family physician told me to give the medicines to her daily.
Btw, I do it to all my phones about once in two or three months to refresh the battery purpose (I drain the battery completely). imo, that Verizon rep used to be a physician with a sales rep background. May I know why you in verizon? is it in contract? If not, take pplus; it uses verizon network but the price is much lower.

    Btw, "...Maybe a silly question..."
No, it was not at all but it was a silly advice I've ever heard in my life for the good phones.

Normally, I reboot every day or two, depending on what the Android assistant tells me I have for available RAM. Takes a couple of minutes. :)

I only reboot my phone if I think there is a problem, if its running slow etc... but thats probably once every month or so, otherwise it runs like a dream, I don't think about it otherwise tbh.

Thanks for the replies, all. I am rebooting daily- just set a reminder to myself. I'm not rooted. Not sharp enough to successfully root a phone lol- fouled one up in the past.
My company provides me with wifi access & I basically rely on the built in apps on the phone for work stuff... and then basic social media. So I don't really need to root. Especially with my track record there- lol.

I'm in the same boat. I reboot daily simply because I swap batteries every morning before I go to work. :)

Now that's a good idea. Thinking of ordering a Zerolemon for long days... thats a sure way to swap batteries for a reboot. Thanks!

pplus is Page Plus. It is Verizon MVNO. It uses the Verizon network but the price is much cheaper and indeed no contract..etc..
Talking about mvno is something similar with a brand medicine vs generic. The same but not quiet; different but the same...lol..;)

Me2; I don't think rooting this phone is worthed because the att apps' don't bother me at all. I did on my previous phone at metro pcs (lg esteem) because the metro adv/messages/etc.. were very very annoyed me; there were about twice a day. Also, I don't need to over clock the speed since it is fast already. So, don't root this phone. Btw, If you've read/learned a little bit about linux/unix/etc..., it is very.....weird an expensive phone with android on it, it needs to reboot daily/often; on Windows; it is very (very) common.
I bet some of you who are re-boot lovers have a screen rotation "problem" right? yes..no..?

I usually have 88% at the end of the day and wonder if I need to charge it every night, but then I do anyway.

Guess you must not have any other devices to play with. :D
