Maybe I'm wrong o.O

So, a lot of my co-workers seem to think I'm an idiot for buying the WiFi Only Xoom...I tried explaining that I can just turn my Droid X2 into a hotspot and connect via 3G on the phone but they are either dense or too prideful to see the logic.

Or, maybe I'm wrong. I'm still deployed at the moment so I don't have my phone to test this theory but it is legit, right? You can tether through your phone to get 3G on the tablet, correct?

I just didn't see a reason to pay two data plans when I can just use one...I don't video chat or anything crazy and I understand it won't be the quickest connection.

Insights?

No you're right. You can just use your phone as a hotspot and pick it up on your tablet.

Though it may not be as fast, or as convenient, it is cheaper than paying two separate plans.
Personally though for the convenience of being able to use internet anytime without having to pull out my phone and turn the hotspot on, I'd pay the $20-$30 a month for data.

I completely agree, once I get out of this horrible paying job that they call the military I'll be trading out for a new tablet and probably giving the old one to the wife since she's always at home with the wireless anyways.

But that's for the information, good to hear I wasn't crazy for my way of thinking.

Widgetlocker + Widgetsoid = 2 seconds to turn on wifi hotspot. $30/month adds up and is not something that I view as you should waste on a second data plan (for a tablet).

Turn on phone, press menu, go into setting and select wifi hotspot is 20 seconds and it takes 10 seconds for your tablet to find the wifi. To me, that is not too much of an inconvenience.

My sister tether her iPad to my Atrix and she gets basically the exact same data that I am getting. Her browser loads quickly and she barely needs to stream youtube videos. It loads.

So I think it's a smart choice that you go the WIFI Xoom :)

No way would I pay for a seperate plan. My phone as a hotspot is all I need.

More power to the ones that can afford a seperate data plan for a tablet, I can't justify the additional internet expense. I already pay $130 a month for internet access at my home and 2 phones.

I got a WiFi only tablet (Eee Pad) also because my phone can be set up as a WiFi hotspot. I can't see the reason why I should get a 3G tablet. Why do your co-workers think you need a 3G tablet and pay the extra cost of an additional data plan? Do you need to pay extra for the hotspot feature? I believe some carriers disable that feature on their phones unless you pay extra.

I've got a wifi only Coby. I don't want to be bothered with a network, especially if I would be roaming. I look for apps that don't need data all the time. Like ereaders, etc.
