I have a stock N6 running on Sprint. I left it untouched on my desk, with 100% power, for about 4 hours. When I picked up, it was at 6%! The cause appears to be something called Mediaserver. I haven't seen this before. It appears to be a service, not an app. Can anyone enlighten me on how to neuter this unwanted service?

I haven't seen this show up in battery stats in a very very long time (earlier devices). I think this application/service is scanning your device to look for media files (so they are indexed and have thumbnails available if applicable)

Try a phone restart (if you haven't done so already).
A couple of other people also seem to indicate this issue after the Jan update - https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/40y69n/media_server_draining_battery_after_january_update/
