Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I can't seem to find the answers. No doubt due to my ineptitude.

    Memory Questions:
How much memory is std. internal? My phone says 123MB available.

How can I upgrade from the std. memory (SD card) without losing my data?

How large an SD card can I use in the Hero?

How can I get MP3's onto the SD card? Do I have to sync with my PC?

Can I load apps. to the SD card instead of the internal memory?

Thanks in advance for humoring this complete novice.

Just copy all of the contents to another larger card using Windows explorer - simple as that.

    Up to 32Gb I think

I used the sync function in Windows Media Player to move them across. However I think you can just drag and drop them across.

You can using app2sd app, but I think your phone needs to be rooted first (not tried it)

    Thank You. One additional question:

    1. Is the SD card mainly for data if I cant normally store apps there? How do I tell the Hero to store data like MP3's, photos etc. to the SD card? Seems like the std. memory is lacking in the Hero.

You don't need to tell it - it automatically stores data on the SD card. The ROM and Ram is fine, and buy a 32Gb SD card and the rest will be too!

I use my SD card for apps :) But doing so does require some tinkering and risks your warranty somewhat. We can point you in the right direction though if that's what you want.

Your hero will use the SD card automatically when you take photos/download things anyway, so just leave it to it. You only have to worry about the internal memory when downloading apps. As for files you put on there yourself, you have to make sure you get the file names right to help the hero find your media. For instance I have mine set up like this:

    /sdcard/media/audio/music
    /sdcard/media/audio/alarms
    /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
    /sdcard/media/audio/notifications
    /sdcard/media/images
    /sdcard/media/video

And that seems to keep ringtones out of the music player and vies versa.

I also sync my music using iTunes :)
