How do I get the message notification on the home screen.

Right now I have to go into the Messaging folder to see all unread messages

There is no notification or number on the messaging icon to indicate number of unread messages.

LauncherPro has this option. I do not believe the X has this ability without using LauncherPro.

Is this gmail or another mailbox? I get a notification when I get a message from my gmail account?

I believe he is referring to a number appearing on the icon itself, not the notification bar.

Speaking of notifications, for some reason, I don't get any emails unless I actually go into gmail and hit refresh. Anybody have an idea what's up with that?

Is your gmail set up in the messaging app or are you using the Gmail app on the phone?

Go into your gmail app's settings and check 'email notifications'. Hopefully that is the solution.

Yeah, I do have 'Email notifications' checked. That supposedly notifies me when an email arrives, which it does. I don't know why I have to hit refresh in order for it to actually work. Thanks though.

I wonder why there isn't a refresh automatically option.

Have you checked your gmail account sync settings? Is it set up to sync your email?

I'm having the same issue, most all of yesterday it was fine and on the ball, today around 10am I finally hit refresh wondering why I didn't have any emails, and bam - 32 emails. I looked and theres no conflict with the data profile only retrieving during certain times. I dunno...?

Could just be sync issues on Google's end.

Yep...everything's good on my end, I didn't change any settings from yesterday when it was working fine. I hope it's on Google's end.

Hello All. I am an old Blackberry Storm user. I made the decision to jump to the Droid / Google OS. I bought the Droid Eris a few weeks back and really enjoyed the new format that comes with the Google OS and the widget system. I decided to trade up for the X becuase the Eris had some lag issues, not to mention the many great functions of the X.

Now for my question, I have the text message and email icon on my home page. This is how I have always done it. What I don't see with these icons is a number notification showing how many unread messages are in each mailbox. The messages are coming in and you can hear the notification but there is zero visual notification. Am I missing a setting somewhere? It is impossible to know if you have a new message in the folder if you didn't hear it or open the folder to check. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, hopefully it's just Google's end and not our phones.

I am not sure but I think that may be a sense ui feature and the X has "blur"
Also if you really want this feature I think the app handcent has it

Read somewhere else about this tip: in the power management widget, make sure the auto-sync icon is on. I've had it off the whole time because I wasn't sure what it was haha. Hopefully that solves the problem.

My bad, I should have said "power control widget". Just long press a blank spot on the screen, go to widgets and you'll see it.
